Our deepest gratitude to everyone who came together in New York City last week to raise funds and awareness at our 42nd annual Imagine Benefit, built on the legacy of the Rita Hayworth Gala. The “Pure Imagination” themed evening raised more than $1.7 million to advance our mission of accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
Founded by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan in honor of her mother, Hollywood icon Rita Hayworth, the annual Imagine Benefit has now raised over $93 million since its inception in 1984.
During the event, the NHL’s @NYIslanders and Jon Ledecky were recognized with the Rita Hayworth Award for their Hockey with a Heart program, and Mission Moment speaker Brian Peikin shared a moving tribute to his mother, Jodi, who died of Alzheimer’s earlier this summer at just 59.
Addressing the sold-out crowd that included members of Gene Wilder’s family, among them his wife, Karen Wilder, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan summarized the power and importance of the Imagine Benefit and its message: “Tonight, we celebrate Pure Imagination. As Gene Wilder asked in the song Pure Imagination, ‘Want to change the world?’ That question is why we’re here: to help families facing Alzheimer’s today, and to work toward a future without it.”
