From Spain to France, India to Chile, people are taking to the streets to defend what matters.
Because when rights are at stake, silence isn't an option.
Thai authorities must immediately halt any plans to forcibly return these two Uyghur men to China, where they face a real risk of torture, arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance.

The Youth Olympic Games are currently taking place in Dakar, Senegal - the first African country to host an Olympic event, with 2,700 athletes competing for 153 medals.
We call on the Senegalese authorities to make sure human rights are respected and protected during and after the Games, including freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly.
The opening of this judicial investigation by the French War Crimes Unit is a critical, long-overdue step towards making a dent in the wall of pervasive impunity enjoyed by Israeli forces for war crimes committed in Lebanon.
For victims and their families, this case offers a rare and vital avenue for truth, justice, and long-awaited accountability through a European court.

What is #COP31? Why is it being held in Türkiye? And what could it mean for climate justice, fossil fuels and human rights?
Our new explainer unpacks what's at stake at this year's UN climate summit 👇

Sir Patrick Stewart was best known for playing heroes on screen, but one of his bravest acts was telling the truth about his own childhood and speaking up for human rights.
For many years, he stood with Amnesty and spoke openly about the violence his mother suffered at home to support our campaign to stop violence against women. His honesty gave courage to survivors around the world.
Our thoughts are with his wife, family and friends. The best way to honour him is to carry on the fight he believed in. It should appal us all that the scourge of violence against women and girls continues, and Governments must do far more to end it.

In this excellent new report, our sister organization @Oxfam lays bare the extreme inequality at the heart of the deepening climate crisis. First, billionaires and the super-rich are burning far more carbon than the rest of us. The richest 0.1% generate more emissions than the bottom 3.5 billion people. The resulting “unnatural disasters,” from floods to droughts, devastate communities worldwide, but they disproportionately affect those who have contributed least to the climate crisis. The impact is even deeper inequality, with people and governments facing skyrocketing debt from climate-related loss and damage.
At the same time, Oxfam's research shows how the super-rich profit from climate suffering. They reap enormous profits from soaring food prices, disaster recovery contracts, and other climate-related shocks. Confronting extreme wealth inequality, fossil fuel industry capture, harmful subsidies, and tax injustice is not separate from the struggle for human rights. It's central to it.

Human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha deserve justice. Today they were sentenced to ten years in prison on counts of “terrorism.” Their crime? Defending activists, lawyers and marginalized communities that were subjected to enforced disappearances and unjust charges.
They underwent an unfair trial for this fearless human rights work. Authorities must immediately release Imaan and Hadi and drop all charges against them.
Private security companies are key links in the chain behind Cambodia’s scam compounds. A new Amnesty report reveals their connections to the military, police and powerful figures directly linked to the scamming industry. Accountability must start with public officials.

COP31 must amplify people power, not oil lobby voices. ✊🌍
In a new @ClimateHome op-ed, @juremawerneck, @ruhat_sena_ and @Sam_Klintworth argue that climate talks must be driven by communities on the frontlines, not fossil fuel interests. Read it here:

Tanzanian authorities have failed to hold anyone accountable for the violence security forces inflicted on protesters, which left hundreds of people dead and thousands of others injured in the wake of the 2025 general election.

Today’s decision represents a crushing blow to press freedom in Egypt and marks a dark day for independent journalism in the country.
By imposing a 3 million EGP fine, ordering the closure of Mada Masr and the seizure of its property, and detaining Lina Atallah until payment is made, the Egyptian authorities are sending a clear and ruthless message: critical, independent reporting will not be tolerated.

Lawmakers should reject France’s “Rioters Pay” bill. This bill would have a significant chilling effect on freedom of peaceful assembly and risks plunging already marginalised families further into poverty, fuelling the scapegoating of refugees, migrants, asylum seekers and minorities. The bill, which was announced this summer and entered senate for debate today, has been accelerated amid ongoing protests in the country. Holding demonstrators responsible for property damage that they did not commit contravenes international human rights law and standards. Passing this bill would be a regressive step for France.
Students in Serbia persevered in the face of a growing crackdown on dissent and inspired broad support across the country. Now the recent snap elections show that people are eager to vote for principles over personalities.
The Student List now holds the majority of seats in Serbia’s parliament following a record voter turnout. The protests that led to this historic change reflect the resistance taking place across Europe, where people are demanding their rights - including standing up for improved housing, education and economic conditions.
One year since El Fasher fell to the RSF, the international community has failed to take the necessary actions to address the desperate plight civilians face as the conflict rages. There has been little accountability for abuses in North Darfur.

The latest assessment from UN Environment Programme (UNEP) delivers a stark warning ahead of COP31: the world is on course to overshoot 1.5°C, while states, especially those most responsible for the climate crisis, remain dangerously far from taking the action needed to limit the scale and duration of that overshoot and bring temperatures back down.
Communities are already being devastated by extreme weather events, melting glaciers and rising seas. Every additional fraction of warming will deepen the harm to human rights.
States must live up to their legal obligations by taking concrete action to hold Israel accountable for its incessant crimes against Palestinians, including state-driven settler violence. They must halt all trade, investment and cooperation that contribute to maintaining Israel’s unlawful occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing campaign. Hiding behind empty rhetoric is not just cowardly; for Palestinians, it continues to be deadly.
