Went for a walk up Oxford Street after my appearance on @BBCRadio2 it all seems very quiet. The occasional cyclist and men sitting in these green boxes eating their sandwiches. It seems to me the lack of traffic has sucked the life out of the street

imagine if someone suggested cramming all these people onto the pavements to make space for motor traffic down the middle

There is no area, of any city which isn’t made infinitely better by well-thought through pedestrianisation.
people replying like the rest of europe hasn't been removing cars from city centres for years now and all of them are cleaner, happier, prettier public spaces which their residents prefer

In an ideal world, everyone would follow the rules. But with limited resources, police rightly focus on major causes of harm; last year, 364 pedestrians were killed, almost all of them hit by motor vehicles. In comparison, more pedestrians are killed by cows than cyclists.

Our ‘waddling’ delivery robots will be a hit, predicts tech boss: “I mean, they’re these pink boxes that say Coco on them and they kind of waddle their way along the sidewalk. So the general public is actually a caretaker of the robots.” The robots:

New YIMBY Pod! In which I get surprisingly mad about the fact that we're spending *millions* on *not* generating electricity. Plus guest @adamtranter explains to me why pavement robots are bad, actually. abundancepod.com/p/were-spen…

Of nearly 19,000 driving violations captured over two weeks, precisely zero drivers were prosecuted. This is because there isn't enough back-office capacity at West Midlands Police, and the process to issue fines hasn't kept pace with camera tech. bbc.com/news/articles/c39wzp…

It doesn't have to be this way. Devon & Cornwall Police managed to send notices of intended prosecution to drivers they caught using the same cameras. bbc.com/news/uk-england-corn…

Developing Police systems that receive information from AI-enabled cameras and automatically issue notices of intended prosecution would be a good AI project for the Government. CC @davidgelberg @KanishkaNarayan

complaining is the most dutch way of doing nothing there's been a pothole next to our office for years - everyone complained about it nobody did anything classic low agency behavior so i (high agency) decided to do something about it i took six photos, gave them to claude, and had it rebuild the pothole in 3D accurate to the millimeter then i asked what happens when a car hits it at 30km/h it built a liability simulator the tire drops in the rim folds the car behind brakes too late a bakfiets swerves into a delivery scooter the pizza lands on a tesla €21,340 in damage per incident claude estimates four a month i sent it to the gemeente slow motion with sound and a polite note asking who they'd like the invoices addressed to two days later a road crew showed up and filled it i'm not an activist i'm just a high agency individual with a claude subscription

Lionel Reid, 19, ploughed his BMW into a cyclist while under the influence of alcohol, then left the scene. Cannabis was also found in his system. The cyclist sustained serious head injuries. I am sure we all feel reassured Reid’s punishment is an 18-week suspended sentence.

At some point a room full of people agreed there was no space on this carriageway for a cycle lane so they settled on this instead.
