As part of our ongoing commitment to discovering and developing new writing talent from across the UK and Republic of Ireland, we're making some changes to the way writers apply for our professional development programmes in 2026/27. The BBC Writers' Access Group previously had its own separate application window. This year we will be consolidating our submission processes so that deaf, disabled and neurodivergent (DDN) writers no longer need to apply separately to both the Open Call and the Writers’ Access Group if they want to be considered for the full range of our talent development programmes. By bringing our application routes together through Open Call, we aim to create a simpler process for writers while embedding access and inclusion more fully across our talent development work. The dates of the next Open Call submission window will be Tuesday 3 November 2026 to Tuesday 1 December 2026 at 12 noon. Please do head over to our website and read the latest blog post by Jess Loveland, Head of New Writing, which outlines more information about this change to our process, and includes the dates of several online drop-ins if you have further questions bbc.co.uk/writers/blog/open-…

📢All this week we’re announcing the writers who have been part of our Voices development programme for 2026 📢 Today we’re introducing the 13 writers from across the south of England! “One of my great privileges in BBC Writers is getting to spend time with writers at a moment when their talent, ambition and individuality are coming sharply into focus. Over the past six months, this year’s South cohort has developed bold, distinctive television drama projects while also continuing to develop craft and grow as storytellers and creative professionals. The result is a collection of ideas that are entertaining, surprising and impossible to mistake for one another. Each writer here brings a unique perspective to the page, and that diversity of voice is what makes this group so exciting. It has been a pleasure to support them on this stage of their journey, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.” Simon Nelson, Development Executive, BBC Writers Find out more about them all on our blog. bbc.co.uk/writers/blog/voice…

📢All this week we’re announcing the writers who have been part of our Voices development programme for 2026📢 Meet the third cohort: the 13 writers from across the north and midlands of England. “This group have all come from different writing backgrounds, each bringing a unique voice and perspective to storytelling for screen. Along the way they’ve shared advice, encouragement and the kinds of creative discoveries that stay with you – from one writer reassuring another who was seeking representation that, “you can’t say the wrong thing to the right person”, to finding focus by simply putting on a writing hat, and discovering the power of ‘body doubling’ as a way to write alongside one another and stay motivated. We’re so excited to see what they do next with their talent, generosity and passion for storytelling.” Alice Ramsey (Commissioning Executive for BBC Drama) and Esther Jackson-Burton (Development Producer, BBC Writers) Full details on our blog bbc.co.uk/writers/blog/voice…

One of the best things to come out of #DoctorWho in the recent years is the @bbcwritersroom Whoniverse script library. There are so many scripts that I've wanted to read for years, including a number of my favourite episodes.
