There’s something people are missing about what happened in Tennessee. This was personal. Rep. Justin Jones didn’t only protest for stronger gun safety. He was the activist who played a role in the bust of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest being taken down from the Tennessee Capitol. In February 2019, Rep. Jones, then an unelected activist, staged a protest at the Tennessee state Capitol where he demanded the removal of a the former Ku Klux Klan leader before being arrested. The statue was finally removed in 2021. However, it seems some relics of the past remain.
