@SpokaneNAACP and @GonzagaU welcomed community members to the John J. Hemmingson Center Grand Ballroom (3rd floor, 502 E. Boone Ave., Spokane, WA 99258) for a Juneteenth Fireside Chat celebrating their “Seeds of Freedom” theme. Super Bowl champion @cliffavril kicked things off by stressing, “I think it’s important for us… to give the game back to the youth. By the time they’re 40, they’ll be ten steps ahead of where I’m at,” underscoring the power of mentorship and collective service. NAACP President Lisa Gardner laid out her vision: “They’re the ones that will inherit the NAACP, they are the ones that will inherit our community and build those future leaders,” reminding us of our responsibility to equip tomorrow’s changemakers. @jaebadiah reflected on the impact: “Cliff was dropping dimes… we still have work to do, and we got to collaborate to make sure we move these mountains,” pairing celebration with a call to action. Youth Council member Mya Jefferson highlighted cultural connection: “Living in Spokane, we don’t hear a lot about our own heritage and culture,” underscoring their mission to uplift through education, mentorship, and intergenerational care. Lisa Gardner closed by framing Juneteenth as more than a date: “Juneteenth is… a liberation that we have to really fight for every single day,” urging a daily commitment to freedom and community growth.
