In a November 6 video, Cristela Georgescu questions why the court’s written explanation for extending her husband’s detention was reportedly circulating in the media before his own lawyers officially received it. She also raises concerns about confidential information from the investigation appearing in the press and about the family’s right to privacy. Cristela argues that her husband’s treatment has damaged public confidence in Romania’s justice system and describes the situation as political persecution. Her message focuses on freedom, innocence and accountability, warning that those responsible for injustice will eventually face consequences. WHY DOES THIS MATTER? Romania is a member of both the European Union and NATO. Georgescu’s supporters believe the political establishment has repeatedly tried to silence a candidate who challenged its direction. Romanian authorities, meanwhile, maintain that the election cancellation and criminal proceedings have legal grounds. The crucial distinction: Georgescu won the first round, not the presidency. His current detention concerns a separate fraud investigation, and the allegation that he is being politically persecuted has not been established by a court.

Met grote verbazing heeft de PVV Groningen kennisgenomen van het besluit om ons Stadhuis rood te verlichten als steunbetuiging aan Palestina. Het Stadhuis is van álle Groningers en niet van één politieke overtuiging! De PVV heeft al vaker aandacht gevraagd voor het toenemende antisemitisme, Hamas-verheerlijking en de grimmige sfeer rondom de Rode Lijn-demonstraties. Juist tegen die achtergrond vinden wij deze actie bijzonder ongepast. Wij kunnen ons heel goed voorstellen dat Joodse inwoners en andere Groningers hier ernstig aanstoot aan nemen. Ook landelijk klinkt stevige kritiek. Een burgemeester hoort boven de partijen te staan. Recent dit boek gelezen. Vol ongeloof. Hoe de rechtspraak, niet in de laatste plaats de Hoge Raad, tijdens de bezetting met de Duitsers meewerkte, wist ik niet. Al helemaal niet dat na de Tweede Wereldoorlog de rechtspraak amper of niet gezuiverd is. Men ging vrolijk verder.
