The stunning majority victory of the Student List in Serbia’s parliamentary elections on Oct. 25 was a vital reprieve for a beleaguered continent. foreignpolicy.com/2026/10/26…
Glad to see the remarkable Serbian Student List triumph in Parliamentary elections gain attention. Serbia -- and the US and EU -- have a seminal opportunity, if the transition to a government grounded in rule of law is successful.

Serbia's stunning, student-led Parliamentary election victory is a lesson for France, Italy and all of Europe. My comments on TRT World:

The 15 March 2025 anti-government protest: "the largest protest ever" held in Belgrade. (Largest gathering in Belgrade since the end of WWII.)

An honor to be among the first Americans -- following Senators Durbin and Shaheen and US Embassy official -- to meet H.E. Justina Shiroka-Pula, the newly-elected President of the Republic of Kosovo.

Proof that Europe sees vital interests at stake in the war with Iran -- no matter who started it. The center of gravity remains Strait of Hormuz and, as I explain in IPQ, France/UK can make the difference:

Breaking: All 4 Kosovo defendants, including ex-President Thaci, found guilty in Hague Special Chambers verdict. After Serbia's glorification of Ratko Mladic, this verdict will resound with double the negative intensity in Kosovo and region.

With Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski visiting Washington this week, I was pleased to speak with Macedonian Radio & Television on relations with the US and how to break the deadlock with Bulgaria:

Probing questions from CNN A2 Albania on Russia's war in Ukraine -- and the fallout in the Balkans. What is the impact on Serbia, particularly after the Mladic funeral? Thank you, Rosalba Bejdo, for the interview!

The images from Ratko Mladić’s funeral yesterday in Belgrade were shocking.
Ratko Mladić was a convicted war criminal. He was responsible for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. He died while serving a life sentence for the Srebrenica genocide and other crimes.
The elements of official support and the presence of some senior Serbian officials at the funeral are deeply regrettable. They demonstrate a failure to confront a dark chapter in Europe’s recent history and contradict the values underpinning Serbia’s path towards the European Union.
Our thoughts are with all the victims of the crimes committed in the countries of former Yugoslavia.
How severe the consequences for Serbia after today's government-supported, full-military honors funeral for General Ratko Mladic, arch-war criminal of Bosnia-Herzegovina? I spoke live on BBC's 'The World Today':

Belgrade buries Mladić as a general this afternoon. In July 1995 at Žepa the general told a UN negotiator which men could leave: all of them, "except for the war criminals." He decided who was one. Today Belgrade decides he wasn't. Edward P. Joseph, who heard the sentence, told it this weekend. My piece, before the speeches.

Thank you to TRT World 'Across the Balkans' host Nadja Muftic for inviting me to speak about the continuing reverberations from the death of Ratko Mladic -- and what kind of figure he was face-to-face. (Interview begins at 5 minutes.)
