The Milwaukee Brewers have sold more merchandise this postseason than any team in history, MLB officials told Brewers owner Mark Attanasio.

Just start putting this guy’s tweets on the back of food labels.
Most decaf coffee is made with methylene chloride. It's the solvent that used to be in paint stripper. The green beans are steamed, then washed in methylene chloride, which pulls out the caffeine and not much else. The beans are steamed again to drive off the solvent and then roasted at over 400F. FDA allows up to 10 parts per million. When a lab tested 24 decaf brands in 2020 it found the solvent in 10 of them at about 0.05 to 0.1 ppm, around 100 times below the limit. The industry calls this the European method. There are 3 other ways to do it. Ethyl acetate, a solvent that can be made from sugarcane, which the trade calls the natural method. Carbon dioxide under pressure. And the Swiss Water process, which uses hot water and carbon filters and no solvent at all. Peet's says all of its decaf is water process. Starbucks has told reporters most of its decaf is the direct contact method, meaning solvent. EPA banned most uses of methylene chloride in 2024, but food is FDA's job, so decaf wasn't part of it. A petition to pull it from food has sat at FDA since December 2023. FDA reopened comments on it in May and hasn't decided. If the bag says Swiss Water or water process, no solvent touched it. If the bag says nothing, you don't know.

You build it one day at a time. Show up today and do your best right now, in this set. Do that for years, and that's where the magic happens. In pretty much everything, not just sports.

I’m obsessed with Murph.
"To hear him say, 'Hey man, just be you.' It was a good reminder, for sure." "I haven't had a better coach than Murph." How a chat with Pat Murphy helped two of the Brewers' scuffling hitters find their mojo in Game 4. mlb.com/news/pat-murphy-help…

Permanent standard time is healthier. Major sleep organizations like the AASM, National Sleep Foundation, and Society for Research on Biological Rhythms endorse it. It better aligns with circadian biology via more morning light, reducing misalignment, obesity, and stroke risks versus permanent DST. Both beat biannual switches.

Senator Cotton is right. Permanent Daylight Savings has been tried and Americans didn’t like it. The better way is permanent Standard Time because it’s based on science. No dark mornings, it keeps our time in sync with the Sun, and no more changing the clocks. Arizona has been on Standard Time year round since 1968 without issue.
No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.

OpenAI discloses on a Friday night that its models shared people’s photos on other sites on 53 occasions
We’ve shared details on how AI agents in our research environment sent training and evaluation data to third-party services when they shouldn’t have. Most of that data did not come from users. We have discovered 53 cases where images that people had uploaded were posted to image-hosting sites as links that weren’t publicly listed. The images came from accounts that allowed their data to be used to improve our models, and after we disassociated the images from the accounts and ran them through a privacy filter. These cases occurred before the mitigations and safeguards we implemented and described in this blog post: openai.com/index/hugging-fac… We have successfully worked with the hosting providers to remove most of this content and are working to remove the rest. openai.com/hugging-face-inci…

I literally think about this every time they do their team high fives after a win. 🤞🤞🤞
Andrew Vaughn has rejoined the Brewers today after staying away during the Phillies series because he was sick. After Cooper Pratt’s illness earlier on the road trip, the club is trying to keep illness from spreading with the postseason so close.

Two of MLB’s smallest-market teams, each with bottom 10 payrolls, will be the first to clinch postseason berths: Tampa Bay clinched a spot with their 3-1 victory over Houston. And Milwaukee, who’s routing the Cincinnati Reds, 17-0, will clinch with a victory tonight.

I left Anthropic's safety team two weeks ago. Now feels like a good moment to explain why. AI companies are racing to build machines that are much smarter than any human, and we may not survive this. I want to work from the outside to ensure the public is informed about these risks, and help the world navigate this transition responsibly. Right now, AI companies are underinvesting in safety. A company could undergo an intelligence explosion, or lose control of its systems, without the public ever knowing. We only found out about the HuggingFace incident because the agents broke out onto the public internet. I don’t think that’s acceptable for a technology that might cause extinction-level risks. The public should demand far more transparency. We can’t steer this technology safely without more people being able to see where it’s going. Some of this is basic: companies should disclose their progress towards recursive self-improvement, report safety incidents and near-misses, meet minimum safety standards, and get independent guarantees that they are meeting those standards. I’ll be joining @METR_Evals to do independent evaluations of these risks. I want to show the world that these guardrails are possible, and that by doing them we can move these companies’ incentives away from racing and towards responsible development. I wrote up more thoughts here on my decision and what I hope changes: substack.com/@jbenton1/p-215…
