Galanthus species - Snowdrops from the Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland. Snowdrops signify that Spring is on it's way. The dainty snowdrop Galanthus nivalis while beautiful is also poisonous, so do not eat. This hardy plant has long been viewed as a symbol of hope for better times ahead. Galantamine, a compound of this species, is a chemical of great importance in cerebral function. A reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that increases brain acetylcholine suitable for Alzheimer's patients and for other disorders.

The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland. Sea Buckthorn Hippophae rhamnoides. "Liquid Gold" the official beverage of 1988 Seoul Olympics for Chinese athletes to enhance performance. Uniquely rich in Omega 7 palmitoleic acid, Vitamin C, Omegas 3 & 6 and many beneficial compounds and minerals, hence it's long use for health benefits and treatment of numerous conditions. The Ancient Greeks fed their horses with sea buckthorn to produce a shiny coat hence the Latin name "Hippophae" is derived from this use - meaning "shiny horse". Said to be the food source of the mythical Pegasus.
