Not at all surprising. In my five years as Immigration Minister, we consistently found that all of our challenging reforms* were supported by immigrants more than people born in Canada. * Reforms like: - Eliminating a backlog of 700,000 PR applications - raising the bar for selection under the points grid, including for English / French language proficiency - overhauling the asylum system that reduced new claims by 80% - imposing visas on major source countries for asylum claims; - imposing a waiting period before foreign sponsored spouses could obtain PR to crack down on marriage fraud - raising the bar to obtain citizenship with much more robust language and knowledge tests based on our Discover Canada citizenship guide, and adding a year to the residency requirement; - revoking citizenship from thousands of people who had obtained it fraudulently; - stopping applications for the parents & grandparents sponsorship program; - ending the live in caregiver program; - ending the widely abused Investor Immigrant Program; - overhauling the Temporary Foreign Worker Program that reduced intake of low skilled TFWs by 85%; - removing federal health benefits from rejected asylum claimants; - increasing resources for CBSA to increase & accelerate deportations, etc.. - reforming the Multiculturalism Program to focus on integration & civic literacy rather than divisive critical race theory; Many of these reforms elicited the usual charges of racism from the left, and many were opposed by the business community as being too restrictive. But consistently we saw super majority support amongst new Canadians for these and other tough measures.
A new poll on immigration from the Environics Institute finds that first-generation Canadians and non-white Canadians have stronger opinions against immigration than white Canadians and third-generation+ Canadians. 63% of first-generation Canadians and 60% of non-white Canadians think too many immigrants are not adopting Canadian values. 57% of first-generation Canadians and 54% of non-white Canadians think that many refugee claimants are fake.

Always happy to rebut mendacious anti-semitic activism
Watch the full video here: youtube.com/watch?v=Cqf5dOvZโ€ฆ We got a furious response from the former Conservative minister Lord Michael Gove when we asked about his position on Israel at the Labour Conference. Gove claimed he knew more about antisemitism than Zack Polanski, the only Jewish leader of a major political party in the UK. He also accused us of not being journalists and of an obsession with Israel, despite the Labour government's change in position on the occupation of Palestine being the key topic at this year's conference. Gove now sits in the House of Lords and is editor of right-wing magazine The Spectator.

Very well put, @PierrePoilievre! The tanker ban is a ban on jobs, prosperity, and revenues to pay for health care & pensions. Itโ€™s a ban on economic & social progress.
Strathcona Resources is proposing to ship up to 250,000 barrels of Canadian oil a day by rail to Prince Rupert and then on to overseas markets. Only one thing stands in the way: Mark Carney's tanker ban. Letโ€™s create more ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ jobs, get better prices for our resources, and be less dependent on the U.S. by voting YES to Conservative MP @DMcKenzieCPC's bill on Wednesday to scrap the tanker ban and put Canada first.

Friends, in just two days, Christians were murdered on two continents. On Friday, gunmen opened fire on a funeral at St. Georgeโ€™s Greek Orthodox Church in Karak, Jordan, and killed nine people. On Saturday, armed men attacked Orthodox churches and homes in Oromia, Ethiopia, and killed more than forty. These are not statistics. They are our brothers and sisters, members of the mystical Body of Christ. When Saul set out to destroy the Church, the risen Jesus asked him, โ€œWhy are you persecuting me?โ€ The Lord is still being persecuted in these victims of anti-Christian violence. Christianity is by far the most persecuted religion in the world today. Those of us who worship in comfort have to ask what the deaths of these martyrs demand of us. At the very least, they demand that we pray for them, learn their names, press our leaders to act, and refuse to look away. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.

Canadian heavy crude is fetching near-record premiums across the Pacific, bolstering the case for the countryโ€™s plan to build a new pipeline to its west coast. A barrel of Canadian Cold Lake crude delivered to South Korea traded at a record $9.50 a barrel more than the Dubai crude benchmark in September. Itโ€™s a stark contrast to the weakening price Canadian oil is getting in the US, its biggest market. Oil sands benchmark Western Canadian Selectโ€™s discount, called a differential, to a monthly average of West Texas Intermediate futures widened to as much as $28.25 a barrel in Alberta last week, the biggest in almost four years. bloomberg.com/news/articles/โ€ฆ

Virtually all of the slopulist right "influencers" in Canada were on Team One BC, which won 1% of the vote. They set their hair on fire when the BC Conservatives decided to stabilize themselves as a mainstream centre-right party at the beginning of the campaign. As with the Alberta referendum, this is yet more evidence that these so-called influencers have no influence, and should be broadly ignored by sensible, principled Canadian conservatives.
A lot of the recent drama on the right in BC came from a crazy right populist splinter party, @One_BCHQ. Made up of self styled โ€œreal conservativesโ€ with the usual assortment of weird obsessions & conspiracy theories: vaccines, ostrich farms, chem trails, xenophobia, MAGA North, all communicated with the volume nob stuck on 10. Basically the BC counterpart of hard core Alberta separatist activists, or Bernierโ€™s @peoplespca. Tonight theyโ€™re at 1.4% of the vote, after two years of being a hugely divisive distraction on the right of BC politics. Yet another reminder to Conservative parties: ignore the crazy fringe of the hard populist right. Donโ€™t let the tail wag the dog. Let them stay in their little fringe parties. Being a principled conservative party does not mean pandering to incoherent, perennially angry populism. Instead, propose bold, thoughtful policy reforms rooted in conservative principles that appeal to the broad mainstream. Just like the @Conservative_BC did in this winning campaign.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending Calgary Opera's magnificent production of Tosca. The performance was interrupted by a Hamas supporter screaming hate messages from the audience. Evil hates beauty. Supporters of a violent death cult committed to the mass murder of Jews, and the imposition of an Islamist theocracy, are of course blind to the beauty of Puccini's music. Why would they have any regard for the hundreds of brilliant musicians and others who spent thousands of hours preparing to stage such a sublime expression of one of the highest forms of art? Of course, they have no compunction about disrupting a crowd of 2400 people who have gathered to be inspired by that beauty. For the Hamas supporters, and their fellow travellers on the far left, their wicked end justifies any means. In a movement where mass rape, killing and kidnapping of innocent civilians is glorified, they don't think twice about marring or destroying great cultural achievements. Think of the violent mobs in France last week, vandalizing and burning to the ground beautiful symbols of French culture and history, while waving their Palestinian flags as a symbol of destructive violence. There is not an Islamist society on Earth that would permit Tosca to be staged. Most of the greatest achievements and art forms of western culture are considered haram by the dark doctrine of Hamas. So it's perversely fitting that they would disrupt such a performance. We should take them seriously when they show us who they are. And we should remember the aphorism attributed to Prince Myshkin in Doestoevsky's The Idiot: "the world will be saved by beauty."

One reason young Canadians are becoming our most politically conservative cohort (and they are; look it up) is because they've all had to interact with an Emily Lowan.
BC Greens MLA-elect Emily Lowan says she's "scared" of what a BC Conservative majority government will do: "We will defend every service they try to cut. We will stand in front of every neighbour they try to scapegoat. We will defend trans rights and DRIPA."

Huge respect to a man who stepped into the breach while his party was melting down, on Day One of an election. He brought order and calmness out of chaos, and led his party to one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Canadian political history.
Thank you, British Columbia. Tonight, you voted for change. You voted for a government that will listen, keep life affordable, and never take your hard-earned money for granted. I want to thank every volunteer who knocked on doors, made calls, and put up signs in the rain. I want to thank our candidates, who stepped forward in a snap election with no time to spare. And I want to thank my wife Shelley and my family for standing beside me every step of the way. To those who didnโ€™t vote for us: I will work just as hard for you. This is your government too. The work starts now. Letโ€™s get to it.

Happy St. Crispin's Day!
On this date in 1415 the battle of Agincourt took place. A fascinating bit of history that also gave us Shakespeare's masterpiece 'Henry V' and several glorious films. Here are clips from 3 films showing the famous, delicious, rousing speech:

The greater differences between Conservative factions in this country are not policy, but levels of anger. You can talk about land/property rights, or gender politics, and sound like someone's sensible neighbour or,you can sound like you spend all day on X. Choose wisely.
It is a triumph that a Conservative Party dominated a city, including downtown cores, while not capitulating on really any policy. It goes to show that voters are very open to Conservatism. In fact, we are just shy of winning the majority popular vote. Tone, tone, tone!
