Rest in peace, Dolores Huerta, the legendary civil rights activist and creator of the UFW slogan: “Sí se puede.” ❤️ Huerta was a friend to workers and educators in California and across the country, and the recipient of AFT’s lifetime achievement award at this past year’s convention. Through her work with the United Farm Workers, she helped uplift Chicano, Mexican, and Filipino field workers. Alongside Rev. Jackson Sr., she helped bridge the Rainbow Coalition, marching together in Delano, Chicago, and across the country. Because of Dolores’ work, immigrants and workers secured better wages, improved working conditions, environmental protections, and voting rights.

Another reason to impose a city corporate head tax when state and federal bodies won't hold these mega corporations accountable.
Corporate greed is Microsoft making $134 billion in profits last year, receiving $19 billion in tax breaks under Trump, paying a lower federal income tax rate than a nurse and getting rid of 60,000 workers. “Corporations will create jobs if they get tax breaks” is a total scam.

Illinois promised to fully fund our public schools by 2027. We're almost there, and CPS is still$1.9 BILLION shortof what the state's own formula says our students need. That means schools without enough nurses, educators facing layoffs, and students losing critical services and support. Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed directing approximately $286 million in TIF surplus funds to CPS. Now it's time for Gov. Pritzker and the Democratic supermajority in Springfield to step up and fund our schools. The Illinois General Assembly returns for veto session November 17, with its final scheduled day on December 3.If lawmakers fail to deliver the additional funding our schools need, CPS could face another round of devastating cuts, furloughs, and layoffs as soon as January. 📞 Call your state representative and state senator TODAY.Tell them to prioritize fully funding our public schools during veto session. Our students can't wait.✊🏾

Chicago's working families deserve a city budget that invests in our schools, neighborhoods, and communities. As corporations like Amazon rake in billions, Chicagoans continue to face rising costs and underfunded public services. It's time for corporations to pay their fair share. We're standing in solidarity with thePeople's Unity Platformas they call on city leaders to put working people and our communities first in next year's budget. 🎃Wednesday, October 28 🕠5:30 PM 📍Location TBA 🔗RSVP: bit.ly/GREEDYAMAZON Halloween costumes encouraged!

Only 49% of CPS students eat school lunch. In Cincinnati, that number is at 80%. Getting lunch participation up by even 10% more in Chicago, could mean more back for our schools from the federal government. Thank you, Eve Ewing, for this conversation. Punch #124 on November 3.

Shawn Fain is right. It is an outrage that GM is spending $20 billion on stock buybacks to enrich its wealthy shareholders, while 80% of its autoworkers no longer have a pension or retiree health benefits. That $20 billion should be going to workers, not Wall Street executives.

Solidarity wins! ✊🏾✊🏼 Congratulations to our union siblings at CCCTU on reaching a tentative agreement with City Colleges of Chicago just hours before they were prepared to walk off the job! After months of organizing and standing together, faculty and professional staff secured a tentative four-year agreement that includes raises that keep pace with inflation, protections for health care, safeguards around AI, and a path toward free developmental education. This is what union power looks like. When educators stand united and are ready to withhold their labor, they can win real improvements for themselves and the students they serve. From one fighting educators' union to another, CTU stands with you as your members prepare to vote on this agreement. An injury to one is an injury to all!✊🏽 🔗 Read more:wbez.org/education/2026/10/1…
