Congratulations to @wxding1 & @KUPharmTox on their publication studying what activates the protein TFEB and its role in liver tumor progression. 🔗doi.org/10.1172/JCI206334
Saturday Spotlight💫: Nearly 10 years ago, TSC1/2 mutations were found to define an aggressive subtype of liver cancer. Here (doi.org/10.1172/JCI206334), Wen-Xing Ding @wxding1 & team @KUMedCenter report that loss of hepatic TSC1 leads to noncanonical TFEB activation and promotes hepatocyte plasticity and tumor heterogeneity associated with high-grade malignancy in mouse and human #HepatocellularCarcinoma. The image shows changes in liver cell fate with TFEB-overexpressing hepatocytes (green) having increased labeling for SOX9 (blue), a marker for tumor aggressiveness.

Congratulations @KUMCCancerBio Assistant Professor Kalyani Pyaram, PhD, (@ImmunolKalyani) on the recent NIH/NCI R21 grant for her project, "Role of T-cell-intrinsic Nrf2 and its Targetability in Muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer." Could inhibiting the antioxidant system within T-cells strengthen anti-tumor immunity? Looking forward to seeing the results.

It was an honor to kick off the MariMack Golf Complex Save the Girls Breast Cancer Golf Tournament which is organized by the amazing MariMack Ladies Golf League. It has been incredible to see this tournament continue to grow, year after year, and with the help of all in the community. We are so appreciative of relationships such as these as when we work together, we can ensure patients have access to the most comprehensive #breastcancer care as possible. #Gratitude #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth 🎀

Cachexia (kuh-KEK-see-uh) affects an estimated 50% of all people with cancer and 80% of people with advanced cancer. Understand the symptoms and, if you're experiencing any, ask your oncologist if you should see a dietician. #CancerCachexiaAwarenessDay #CCAD

Thank you to @RoyJensenMD, @RonaldChenMD, and @BrownLab_KUMC, who joined hundreds of other advocates in Washington, D.C., for last week's @RallyForNIH. They asked lawmakers to safeguard the future of medical research by making NIH funding a national priority.
