Next year will mark 45 years since British forces liberated the Falkland Islands. For some of those veterans who fought in that conflict, this may be one of the last major anniversaries they see.
We have confirmed that commemorations will take place on the islands to mark the anniversary, honouring those who paid the ultimate price for the freedom of the Falkland Islanders.

In the late 19th century, the Argentine state launched a military campaign into Patagonia and the Pampas, which were territories inhabited by Indigenous peoples including Mapuche & Tehuelche communities.
Thousands were killed, captured or displaced. Indigenous political structures were dismantled, while vast areas of conquered territory were transferred to ranchers & settlers. One of the explicit ambitions of the period was to encourage European settlement & to ‘Europeanise’ Argentina.
This leads to an interesting question:
Should Argentina return these lands to the Indigenous peoples who inhabited them for many years before the Spanish arrived?
It is very different to the Falklands, which had previously been uninhabited.

I’ve had enough of these grifters. If another government comes whining for slavery reparations from the country that distinguished itself by its relentless global abolitionism, we should treat it as a hostile act and respond with economic sanctions.

Listening to Milei ramble on about the Falklands. I love Argentina and the Argentinian people but I find it hard to accept that they don’t see the irony in their claims for the islands. Argentina was built on genocide and ethnic cleansing, the Selk’nam people were systematically slaughtered in their thousands by implanted sheep farming foreigners and their descendants. The people of the Falklands are British, and voted to remain British. Milei is mates with Netanyahu, sold off a chunk of Patagonia to Israel and has sideburns that belong on Epstein island. Don’t listen to him hermanos 🇦🇷 🇬🇧

Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the world-famous explorer, has not been seen in public since 2024 – and those closest to him say they have been unable to find out where he is or how he is faring.
Friends and family have spent years trying to track him down, discovering that he had been in a London care home under an alias but then the trail went cold. Cards and letters are returned unopened.
Fiennes's inner circle have now asked the Telegraph to investigate "the extraordinary final chapter" in the life of Britain’s greatest living explorer ⬇️
