Lumiere Cinema was started by employees who took over a movie theatre, the Music Hall in Beverly Hills. We are an arthouse cinema. COVID-19 has closed us for over 6 months. Somehow we have made it this far. We’re asking for your help. #SmallBusinessRelief gofundme.com/f/keep-lumiere-…

CHRONOVISOR is beautifully, disturbingly hypnotic. Cosmic Salon (Kevin Walker & Jack Auen) make a paean to academic investigation that, along with obsessive curiosity, can be consuming. Fuses past & present in a way I’ve rarely seen. Its unnerving mystery is sublimely seductive.

Brunch can wait. There are seniors making a horror movie, and we have questions. Come catch SILVER SCREAMERS at @musichall3 this Sunday, then stick around for a Q&A with director Sean Cisterna.

NAZA has been widely discussed, in terms of its information, by many who haven't seen it—but its crucial importance extends much further, to the cinematic form that gives its revelations physical presence and casts its challenging gaze outward to viewers:

primetime is the first true period film about the 2000s and it has it on lock. the film is not about pedophiles or about the ethics of television it is about how insane, psychopathic, and soul-annihilating that period of history was. mcmansions included. 9/10.

THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE: The most frustrated/pissed off I've been with a movie I still think is four stars

I already love the movie but if Coyote vs. ACME truly brings back the Looney Tunes into the cultural consciousness, it’s the most meaningful movie of the year. I know Twitter is just Twitter but it’s so nice seeing almost nothing but Looney Tunes clips
John Irvin’s Tinker Tailor adaptation and his film DOGS OF WAR with Christopher Walken are both criminally under-seen.

If I Go Will They Miss Me, DESTROYED me. I had to stay in the theater for like 5 minutes post credits to regather myself. I didn’t want to walkout with tears running down my face.

What an absolute hoot! Had tons of anvil sized fun seeing COYOTE VS. ACME at the cinema just now. It's genuinely one of the best and most timely films made by a studio I've seen all year, which makes its labyrinthine path to the screen even more ironic and inspiring. So well made, smartly written and with a gag every 3 seconds, it's a brilliant tribute to Looney Tunes legends Chuck Jones, Tex Avery and Michael Maltese. Five big sticks of dynamite from me. Don't miss!
PRIMETIME is an unnerving Rorschach blot of a picture, its (intentional, I believe) lack of center allowing just enough distance from its various predatory figures to indict our culture both then and now. This means it’s emotionally unfulfilling, but the abyss is the point.

AMERICAN DOCTOR: three U.S. surgeons travel to Gaza in this furious, confrontational, & incredibly damning call to resist Israel & America's still-ongoing genocide. eschews heroism to focus on evil, builds to a shattering lament against erasure. put it on every screen on Earth.

If you're wondering how they shot THAT scene in Tenzing. Here's a look at the behind-the-scenes. What is so extraordinary about Tenzing is it's made by mountain climbers/mountaineers and they filmed it FOR REAL in the mountains (Nepal & NZ). Such incredible filmmaking. #Tenzing
This David Ehrlich piece is worth a read. The tech world still doesn't understand the vagaries of culture.
In capitalist terms: simply dumping a movie on your website signals to people that you have a bad product.
Netflix mainly just created a digital used DVD bin at Walmart.
Netflix has spent the last 10 years trying to render movie theaters obsolete. i wrote about why they failed, why they gave up, and why abandoning their holy war on exhibition could save the struggling company from becoming obsolete itself.

Yet another reminder that if you are worried about AI, consider that the tech people tried to kill movie theaters during the pandemic and everyone rejected it.
In other news, the Music Hall has History of Concrete, The Scout, Ten Will, and many other terrific movies now playing.
