A very exciting conservation win in Australia! 🦜 Three ecologically and culturally significant properties in northern Queensland totaling nearly 396,000 hectares — more than three times the size of Hong Kong — have been acquired by the Queensland Government, supported by TNC and our philanthropic partners! “The properties provide habitat for several threatened species, including the vulnerable Carpentarian Grasswren, Grey Falcon and the endangered Golden-shouldered Parrot, along with numerous other plants and animals that remain poorly documented,” said Mike Roache, TNC’s Protected Landscapes Director in Australia. With deep gratitude for @bfrist and all he's given to TNC and the conservation movement. 💚
Today I hand off the chair of @nature_org’s Global Board to John Bernstein, the ultimate conservationist and a visionary leader. Eleven years with TNC changed how I see the link between human and planetary health. Much work remains, but I leave with a full heart and real hope.

The Nature Conservancy's system of 800+ privately owned, permanently protected system of nature preserves, located in every state, serves many purposes—from wildlife management to freshwater security and environmental education. 🍂 But did you know that many are becoming destinations for "leaf peeping?" nature.ly/3LeYWbV

The sunrise over a snowy mountaintop. A colorful fish darting through a reef. The rustle of grasses in a quiet prairie. A fox trotting through a still forest. These places. These moments. They mean so much. At The Nature Conservancy, we believe they should be protected for all generations.

Snaking through the Western Balkans are some of Europe's last free-flowing rivers. But dams and pollution threaten their future. That's why TNC joined 6 local organizations across 5 western Balkan countries to launch United for Rivers, a campaign to protect them. nature.ly/47bhVM5

Gabon is a rich network of naturally flowing rivers, lakes and wetlands. By acting now, Gabon can balance economic development with protecting the freshwater systems that sustain its people. A new initiative aims to help Gabon conserve 18,000 km of its free-flowing rivers. nature.ly/4iAo7V4

Almost every restored forest, cleaner river and wildlife comeback story has something in common: it started as a wild idea that somebody was brave enough to try. For 75 years, we've seen what can happen when “what if?” turns to “what next?”. See 5 ideas that took root: nature.ly/4diH2A4

The question is no longer whether drought and land degradation will affect us. It's how prepared we'll be to respond. As #COP17 closes, read TNC's Linda Krueger's take on the outcomes, momentum generated and what comes next: nature.ly/4cPgZ3e

Gabon just launched Gabon Infini, a major Project Finance for Permanence initiative with Enduring Earth to mobilize $200M for people, nature & climate. Gabon is a crucial ecological anchor within the Congo Basin, known as Earth’s second lung. The Roadless Rule—which is now in danger of being repealed—is a powerhouse for the outdoor recreation economy in the U.S. Each year, millions of people enjoy hiking, hunting and more in the nearly 60 million acres of national forest and national grassland that the Roadless Rule protects. 75 years ago, a small group of scientists decided studying nature wasn't enough. They wanted to save it. That bold effort grew into a global conservation organization working across all 50 U.S. states and 83 countries and territories. nature.ly/4hAdmBI

The urgency in conservation is real. But so is the opportunity. During my time with @nature_org , I’ve learned to hold urgency and hope at the same time. Here’s why I believe this moment is different. 🧵

National monuments conserve wildlife habitat, support local economies and ensure recreation access. We are disappointed by the decision to shrink Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments by nearly 90%. nature.ly/4w8agcz

Public lands are where many of us first fell in love with nature. But millions of acres could be at risk. We've stopped these efforts before, and we can do it again. This #4thofJuly, let's celebrate our nation's greatest treasures through action. Tell Congress: public lands belong in public hands. 🌎 nature.ly/446U8LU
