“They cannot legislate what they don’t understand.” This came up during a two-day bootcamp with women legislators and civil society leaders in Côte d’Ivoire, where our colleagues discussed what it takes to address #TFGBV. Côte d’Ivoire has laws covering cybercrime, data protection and gender-based violence. But gaps remain in how TFGBV is specifically addressed, and limited gender data makes it harder to develop effective policy responses.

One proposal was to develop an advocacy brief outlining these gaps and the case for legislative action. The discussions also highlighted the need for government support and greater accountability from technology platforms. Women cannot carry the burden of online safety alone. This connects directly to Pollicy's priorities on a #SafeAndJoyfulInternet and #DataPolicy.

Pollicy is in Bali this week for #ICANN87. Its Annual General Meeting brings together government, civil society, the private sector, and the technical community to discuss DNS abuse mitigation, registration data, and the next round of domain names. Gender perspectives often go unmentioned in these conversations, so we have been asking whose experiences are being considered. Our work sits at the intersection of #data, #digitalrights, and design, and we are here to make sure gender is part of the conversation. #ICANN

What will it take for women leaders in #Tanzania to take part in democracy without being pushed offline? This week, 20 decision makers joined our #TFGBV Key Stakeholder Bootcamp in Tanzania, from government, police, the judiciary, media, telecoms, political parties, academia, UNESCO and civil society. We worked from The Cost of Candidacy and @JamiiForums research, and left with one clear takeaway: a safe and joyful internet needs a united voice. #DigitalRights #SafetyByDesign #OnlineSafety #WomenInPolitics

We’re delighted that many participants shared their lived experiences online. We encourage the public to #ClickSafe: create a safety plan, report abuse, and take time to be slow and accurate. As the internet evolves, the community needs to evolve, especially for women. 3/3

Our Program Coordinator, Danai, is at the @_AfricanUnion 's #InnoFest26, taking part in the Inaugural CoP on TF-VAWG. Participants are reviewing @UN_Women's draft baseline brief and working toward shared terminology to strengthen advocacy across #Africa. Danai is also following the tech innovation sessions while there, where donors and governments meet. For Pollicy, #data and technology must serve people, especially women and marginalized communities.
