Borrowing against private shares is about to go mainstream and here’s why:
There is now $5.3 trillion of value sitting in private companies that cannot or will not list.
The median company goes public at 14 years old.
By Series C, employees collectively own more of the company than the founders. And for private startup employees, stock can be as much as 86% of net worth.

Look at that employee pool. The tastefully subtle illiquidity of it. Oh my god. It's even vested. Impressive. Now let’s see it pay rent.

Most people don't need complete understanding to make a decision, buy something, form trust, etc.
If you make this a requirement for buying something, you shrink your TAM immensely.
Love how Terence and team are simply meeting customers where they're at, not forcing them to be experts on things they don't care about.

We need to stop treating tender offers as a path to retirement, and start retiring the tender offers themself.
Private market "tenders" are becoming more popular.
these "stock sale events" give shareholders cash BUT force ~30% in taxes and (most key IMO) lost future value
Techdollar's alternative puts the same money into a "workforce credit line" backed by employee equity:
1) Employees get to draw cash.
2) The company earns the interest.
3) Nobody has to sell.
This is going to be huge for private markets.

"I don't want to sell my most valuable asset."
And you don't need to.
"We're saying, keep your equity, get cash now."
"The problem is there's no counterparty to say, I'll give you my shares, you give me money right now, and a year from now I'll pay you back because I want to own the thing."

Techdollar wants startups to replace tender offers with equity-backed credit lines for every employee.
"Out of the 100 million dollars spent on a buyback, your employees are then going to spend 30% of that money paying taxes."
"The company]can take the 100 million dollars and say, we are going to fund this equity value program."
"Every employee will get a credit card and that credit card is entirely collateralized by your equity in the startup. The money they put up funds those loans."
"The beauty of it is if the employees don't pay you back, you as a company are the counterparty to that loan. You're buying back the shares."

This is our North Star at @techdollarhq.
Liquidity programs being made available as an ancillary benefit for a workforce will become the most sought perk when joining a company.
The only path to realizing the monetary value of what you have built should not be selling out.
