Dear Torrance, I can’t believe today it’s already been two years since you’ve been gone. I speak to you and Mom every day as I believe that your energies are still with me,

Halifax was also where our Poh Poh (grandma) and Gong Gong (grandpa) ashes were scattered because Grandma wanted to sail the oceans. Since Mom’s wish was also to sail the oceans I brought some of both your ashes out to scatter at a peaceful beach today.

Next weekend, I’ll be in Halifax for Defeat Duchenne Canada’s Family Forum, speaking on “Beyond the Diagnosis: Family, Mental Health & Grief.” My brother Torrance’s passing two years ago makes this conversation deeply personal. 💙 defeatduchenne.ca/news-and-e…

In 2024, I served on the Patient & Caregiver Planning Subcommittee for NACIC. What stood out wasn't just being at the table—it was that organizers genuinely listened. Our lived experiences weren't a checkbox; they actively shaped the conference itself. 1/4

Because the piece is behind a paywall, please send me a message directly if you’d like to read it. My hope is to see more conference organizers within healthcare, rehabilitation, and beyond move toward true co-design. 3/4

April 10 is National Siblings Day in Canada and the US. It’s been about 1.5 years since my brother Torrance passed away.

Although he is no longer with us physically, he has left a lasting impact on many of us. Please continue to remember him, say his name, visit his website and social media channels, order his merch, or contribute to our family fund.

Systems often fail because they try to solve for "disability" as a single identity. In reality, it intersects with race, gender, and caregiving in ways that deeply affect access to justice. 🧵

I recently spoke with @GlobeAndMail about a reality I lived for years: balancing a career while serving as a full-time caregiver for three loved ones. At my peak, the pressure was so intense it led to ER visits. I wasn't just working; I was surviving. 🧵

I’m often asked how I managed. The truth? I didn't do it alone. Gratitude to @BrazeMobility. When they said “We got your back,” it built a level of loyalty no "perk" could match. We need to normalize caregiver-friendly workplaces. Read more: theglobeandmail.com/life/art…
