I bought an old car factory in Detroit and now I’m starting it back up. 👇

This will be one of the most monumental upgrades we'll ever have at the car factory to make our affordable truck. I worked out the cheapest way to get these safely back from SF to Detroit was to put them into a truck, have that truck get put onto a train, brought out here by rail, then switched back into Truck Mode. The problem was I put the lock on it months ago and had no idea where the key is. No problem, I've got the universal key. These 16 robots will make all the difference in making repeatable, affordable parts: suspension pieces, frames, chassis parts, body pieces, etc. Also doing pick-and-place for electronics assembly, motor winding, all sorts of things. It's a new age for reindustrialization in Detroit. 🇺🇸 #mutinymotors

Our Governor’s team reached out to me last week to allow me 15 minute with @GovWhitmer to ask anything I want unfiltered - no prep, no fancy cameras, no teleprompter. What you’re seeing here from the first 50 seconds we sat down in a car at the auto show.

I’m now convinced that we’re just not designed to have infinity information in our pocket.

I was digging through old files today and found this podcast we did with Greg Mudge from Mudgie's Deli & Wine Bar in 2016. Give it a listen if you want to go back to the past: thedetroitbus.com/behind-cou… We miss you, bud. <3

Launching the 2025 GR Corolla in the car factory. Weird place to do a 60ft but okay. This is not an advert but Toyota did lend me this pre-production prototype for free for a week. Pre-prod because this has the new 8-speed auto. This beautiful beast is expensive, hard to find and has some recurring issues, but it’s impossible not to smile when the spinny boi gets going and you blast off. Definitely in the upper right corner of the hot/crazy matrix. What car do we launch in here next?

I won a national rally championship this year but lost a year of progress on the factory - even trade?

pro tip, if you're buying brackets on mcmaster, just download the STEP, and get it made from SendCutSend instead $5.56/ea (SCS) vs $8.94/ea (McMaster)

I have a 2025 Toyota GR Corolla AT press car in two weeks. I’ll bring it back to the factory and analyze it on a lift. What do you want to see it do? What do you want to know? *can’t be destructive/damaging

If you’re moving big stuff, ship intermodal! Here’s how and exactly how much it costs. If there’s a train line nearby there is a chance you can save thousands of dollars shipping FTL intermodal. This only works well if you’re in an industrial corridor and have a whole truckload to ship. Lots of carriers do this, but you need to dig dig dig for the best quote. Working with freight providers is a rough trade, but it’s worth it if you’re trying to get it done the most efficiently. Now where are my arms? #mutinymotors #mutinyrobotics

Robot revolution incoming. I’m back from my content break and ready to kick it. I had way different plans this week but opportunity called - and opportunity was robots! These are highly sophisticated manufacturing robots - the fastest of their kind. We’ll use them to modernize dull, dirty, and dangerous jobs at my car factory, but also set up a learning track for Detroiters new and old so they can learn how these things work. The future is headed this way one way or the other.

Today is the anniversary of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. 49 years ago 29 sailors were lost to the waves of Lake Superior hauling ore out of Duluth, MN. The Mariner’s Church of Detroit rang the bell 30 times today - one for each sailor lost, and once for Gordon Lightfoot who memorialized the lost for generations to come. This is a repost from May 2023 when Gordon passed.

We’re working to influence this election in a big way - but not for any particular candidate! Detroit has historically had a terrible voter turnout rate because of poor transit and mobility in the city. With this decreased voice in public affairs Detroiters end up disenfranchised and underrepresented and have been for decades. Not good. Absentee ballots and early voting should help reverse this trend, but we’re getting active and rolling our entire fleet yet again for what we’re calling #VoteRides2024 to make sure of it - Free rides to the polls for anyone in Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck. These photos are from our program in 2018. It doesn’t matter who or what you’re supporting - if you want to get to the polls on Election Day, we’ll get you there and back safely. We are not only sending out all of our buses to every corner of the city, but we also have a huge team of volunteers with cars to give people individual rides on-demand. It’s our responsibility and duty as citizens to cast our vote so we can continue this American experiment and prove that a truly free nation is possible. Since transit and mobility is our superpower it falls on us to try and help with this little part of the process the best we can as @detroitbus. (Detroit Bus is my social benefit company I started 12 years ago to fill transit gaps in Detroit.) To volunteer, donate, get a ride for an individual or group, head to VoteRides.com or hit the link in bio. Let’s do democracy right - with everyone 🇺🇸✌️ ** If that doesn’t get you to vote, do it for Mo. 🐺
