The Boston Celtics fielded the first all-Black starting lineup in NBA history on December 26, 1964, against the St. Louis Hawks.
After an injury to power forward Tom Heinsohn, Willie Naulls replaced him for 12 games on beginning on December 26, 1964 in St. Louis. The Celtics went on to win all 12 ot those games.
Coach Red Auerbach a New Yorker of Jewish descent from Brooklyn ignored all the racist rants that were thrown his way in the segregationist 1960's and held to his beliefs that a man must be judged on his merits and abilities, and not the color of his skin!
That historical starting team was • Bill Russell 6, • Sam Jones 24 • K.C. Jones 25 • Satch Sanders 16 • Willie Naulls 12.

After thoughtful consideration and discussion with many of that era WE posthumously welcome Manute Bol ‘84 as an Honorary Alum. Going forward he will be classified among our now 28 @NBA participants. RIP Big Fella.
BABC History: Manute Bol RIP chapter contd Bol never appeared in any games for our vaunted, national power 19u squad since we couldn’t document his age. He did appear in our NBA PRO AM Developmental League at Madison Park HS. Thus we never claimed Bol as an alum
