African faith leaders call on @GatesFoundation to stop funding AGRA; make reparations for damage caused by its agricultural interventions (via support for small-scale farmers, indigenous practices + climate resilience measures); and invest in sustainable, inclusive, equitable food systems and #agroecology. Will the foundation respond? @neilwatkins05 safcei.org/twenty-years-on-5…

1/ A follow-up to the latest #FOIA records posted by @USRightToKnow: In June, Joseph Murphy wrote in this essay that he faced “reprisal investigations” and efforts to prosecute him over his complaint alleging coverup of the DEFUSE prososal. He did not specify any resulting discipline. brownstone.org/articles/covi…
NEW #FOIA records: 1/ In an August 2021 complaint, Marine officer Joseph Murphy alleged DARPA concealed DEFUSE, a rejected proposal with the Wuhan Institute of Virology that some proponents of a lab-leak have come to view as a blueprint for engineering SARS-CoV-2. We’ve posted 117 pages on DoD IG’s handling of the complaint: usrtk.org/wp-content/uploads…

A blockbuster article by @susrust in @latimes A must read which illustrates a familiar pattern by major polluters.
"Internal memos among company scientists and executives obtained by The Times reveal that for at least half a century, the plastics industry has been aware of and concerned about the potential for microplastic contamination in the human body." latimes.com/environment/stor…

1/ NEW: In 2019, NIH lab chief Vincent Munster proposed to his postdoctoal student the idea of inserting a furin cleavage site into SARS-like spikes “to enhance infectivity,” newly obtained records show. His lab also sought and obtained unpublished SARS-related sequences for the same research project that year. Along with the rejected DEFUSE proposal, this is the second documented instance of scientists proposing to engineer a furin site into a wild bat coronavirus spike to boost infectivity in the two years before the COVID pandemic emerged. ProPublica has written a lot about the correlation between payments to doctors and prescribing. More evidence of the link here:
"Gifts, payments, free meals, and other marketing ploys by pharmaceutical companies heavily influence doctors to prescribe more drugs, choose less appropriate treatments, and drive up prescription costs, according to a systematic review of 93 studies." usrtk.org/healthwire/drug-co…

1/ NEW: When Wuhan’s Zhengli Shi invited Ralph Baric to a 2016 emerging-viruses conference, the UNC researcher declined -- but offered his top mouse-model scientist in his place. Lisa Gralinski studied SARS and bat SARS-like virus pathogenesis in mice, Baric told Shi. We’ve posted 195 pages of newly obtained records on Gralinski’s trip to Wuhan and her later contacts with WIV scientists. usrtk.org/wp-content/uploads…

NEW: In Feb. 2020, Ralph Baric was being asked to publicly knock down claims linking his coronavirus research to the Wuhan outbreak. Privately, he warned a group of scientists advising U.S. intelligence that such a statement could be used for “nefarious purposes to shift blame.” He added he was receiving “concerning, if not threatening” emails. My latest story based on records pried loose via @USRightToKnow's continuing FOIA efforts: usrtk.org/covid-19-origins/r…

Reading the @FBI's latest release of records in response to a @USRightToKnow #FOIA lawsuit for intelligence on COVID origins is a little like playing a national security version of Mad Libs. There are a LOT of [REDACTED] blanks. But what remains visible around them is pretty interesting ... 1/4 🧵
