Today, October 30th, my dad has been killed in action.
My kind, calm father.
I write it here because I know my dad has many friends in the NAFO community, people who he could rely on for help.
His memory will perdure on this account.
Forever loved and missed.

We have a loved one scheduled to be on this flight. He will be killed if he’s returned to the Taliban. He supported the US mission in Afghanistan. He has broken no laws. He came here legally. Seeking asylum should not be a death sentence.
Breaking News: The Trump administration has detained dozens of Afghan immigrants in Louisiana — including relatives of those who helped the U.S. military — and plans to deport them to Afghanistan, according to U.S. officials. nyti.ms/4jPVvrw

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

From the Holy See Press Office: "Pope Leo XIV has exercised his right to vote as a United States citizen, whenever he was eligible to do so. The Holy See Press Office confirms that in keeping with this long-standing practice of civic participation, he has submitted his mail-in ballot in Chicago. The Holy Father has also confirmed that, during his years of residence in Peru he exercised his right to vote whenever he was eligible to do so. The Holy Father expresses his belief in the right and the duty of citizens to participate in democratic processes."

Congress made overwhelmingly clear that we must close sanctions loopholes to intensify pressure on Russia and end this war in Ukraine.
Yet Trump continues to defy Congress and the voice of the American people. His focus on appeasing Putin and enriching Russia further erodes trust with our allies and partners. nytimes.com/2026/10/28/us/po…

The @Ch_JesusChrist has committed $3 million to help more water reach the Great Salt Lake by removing invasive phragmites along its shores.
These aggressive reeds consume twice as much water as native plants, obstruct natural water flows, degrade critical habitat for millions of migratory birds, and increase wildfire risk.
The funding will accelerate removal efforts and support long-term wetland restoration led by the Office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner and @DNR.
Together, we’re going to save the Lake.

Rest easy, Captain. We have the helm. ✨
This is Webb’s look at Westerlund 1, a super star cluster. Because our galaxy is past its peak of star formation, and because stars live relatively short lives, only a few of these clusters exist to give us clues to that past era.

ALT Image description: A quote by Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart. "I've come to believe that the stars have always been in my favor." - Jean-Luc Picard. The image shows a dense cluster of bright stars, each with six large and two small diffraction spikes, due to the telescope’s optics. They have a variety of sizes depending on their brightness and distance from us in the cluster, and different colors reflecting different types of star. Patches of billowing red gas can be seen in and around the cluster, lit up by the stars. Small stars in the cluster blend into a background of distant stars and galaxies on black.
