For people who have endured fear, isolation & deprivation, this humanitarian pause offers a chance to reach safety & receive the help they need.
We recognize the role of @FLOTUS in helping make this ceasefire possible. We hope it opens the door to sustained humanitarian access.
WFP is providing emergency food assistance to people who were able to leave Oleshky during a brief localized ceasefire.
WFP provided hot meals to evacuees immediately upon arrival and will scale its assistance as needed.

No one should lose their life trying to save someone else’s.
My condolences go out to Al-Shami’s family and colleagues.
Humanitarian workers must NEVER be targeted in the line of duty.
All detained UN personnel should be immediately released.
We are utterly devastated by the death of our colleague Mohammad el Shami in Houthi custody in Yemen, after more than two years of arbitrary detention.
This is a heartbreaking loss. Mohammad’s family has not received any explanation of the cause or circumstances of his death. They deserve to know the truth. I demand an urgent, full, independent and thorough investigation. There must be accountability -- @volker_turk
UN Human Rights Chief again appeals for the immediate and unconditional release of all other UN personnel who remain detained.

Ending hunger takes peace, partnership, and the determination to reach people in the hardest places.
Every day, @WFP teams deliver food and hope to people caught in the hardest circumstances. Our responsibility is to find a way to reach them.
Yesterday, I shared a message with @WFP colleagues around the world.
I wanted to begin my mandate by recognizing the thousands of colleagues who show up with extraordinary dedication, courage and compassion to serve those in need.
Today, I share it with you.
More than 100 million people rely on @WFP for assistance. As Executive Director, I’m determined to keep that mission at the heart of everything we do.
266 million people are facing acute hunger globally. Behind every number is a person, a family counting on the world to act.
WFP is working every day for people facing hunger around the globe.
As the new @WFPChief takes the helm, the urgency of our mission could not be clearer.
Today marks my first day as @WFP Executive Director.
It’s an honor to join the lifesaving work of this organization and the people behind it.
Ending hunger takes all of us. And I’m ready to get to work.

#UNDay: As the @UN turns 81, we continue working together for a better future for all. At WFP, we’re doing our part for a world without hunger.
For 81 years, the United Nations has worked to bring countries together to advance peace, development and human rights.
As the world faces growing challenges, global cooperation remains essential to building a better future for all.
Saturday is #UNDay.
Hunger is not only a humanitarian issue. It is also a challenge to stability, prosperity and peace.
If we want a more peaceful and prosperous world, food security must be part of the solution.

Good news from #Gaza: children are back in learning spaces, with fresh fruit to keep them healthy and focused. Seeing them was the highlight of my visit.
But with the lack of commercial access over the past week, this progress is under threat. We mustn’t lose it.
Now is not the time for support and attention to drop.
It is the time to step up, protect the gains made in Gaza, sustain the programs that have helped push back famine, and help families rebuild their lives.
Now is not the time to look away from Gaza. It is time to step up, sustain this support, protect the progress made, and push for early recovery.
My conversation with @Reuters: reuters.com/world/middle-eas…
Life in Gaza remains brutal. WFP is being forced to cut monthly assistance for half a million Palestinians just as winter begins, when we should be scaling up.
Near one of the meal kitchens in Gaza, I spoke with @AP about what this means for families.
