BREAKING: The man who spent years preaching about the “higher loyalty” and treating the FBI like his personal PR firm just got hit with a criminal information for allegedly doing exactly what he claimed no one under him ever did — leaking national defense info. United States v. Comey (1:26-cr-00229, D.D.C.), unsealed today after being filed under seal on October 5: • Count I: On or about October 5, 2016, while FBI Director, knowingly and willfully transmitting information relating to the national defense to a person not entitled to receive it, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 793(d) (Espionage Act). Prosecutors allege this involved directing staff to talk to a New York Times reporter (Charlie Savage) to “correct” a Reuters story about Yahoo scanning emails under a FISA order. • Count II: Conspiring with others known and unknown to commit the above, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 793(d) and (g). Filed right as the 10-year statute of limitations was about to expire (previously investigated and declined by two different teams of prosecutors). Third time the Trump DOJ has charged him. Accountability hits different when it arrives a decade late and via an information instead of a grand jury indictment — but the charges themselves are straightforward if the evidence holds.
