Birmingham is officially the UK's third friendliest city according to @CNTraveler But which neighbourhood, pub, café, shop or street deserves the crown as Birmingham's friendliest spot? Replies, accusations of bias and bribes all welcome.

Gas Street Basin, Birmingham. One of my favourite places to moor. I took this the last time I was there and every day was like waking up in Victorian England. The atmosphere of this place was beyond compare. The Grand Union Canal is on the left and one of several pubs is on the right. People who worked on the canals worked hard and got thirsty. Quite a few people have come out of these pubs and fallen into the canal over the years. Some never climbed back out. Incredibly I’ve never fallen in. Yet.

FOLKS! The Chamberlain fountain is working again! And she’s looking super clean, Chamberlain Square feels even more alive again 😮‍💨 What’s that? Along with the Floozie we have 2 working fountains in the centre of the City again! 😂 let’s keep this up! (3 of we include Brindley)

There’s Birmingham nostalgia, and then there’s putting a photo of @snobsnightclub in the ’90s on your album cover. @the_twang have done exactly that for Bring Yourself, their first new album after coming close to calling it a day. Somewhere in that crowd is 320 ruined trainers and someone you still owe a tenner. Out Jan 22, 2027, the record follows a difficult period for the Birmingham band. After songwriter Jon Watkin lost his wife in 2023, his friendship with bandmate Phil Etheridge broke down. Writing songs helped bring them back together, and those songs became the album. The first single, Something to Someone, is out now and you can hear it on our Instagram. The band have also announced Twangmas at O2 Academy Birmingham on Dec 19, their only UK headline show this year. Tickets go on general sale Oct 2. The cover, though? That’s a night out and a half before you’ve heard a note. Plus, the girl with a Top Nosh? Hero.
