Abdul El-Sayed refuses to distance himself from Cenk Uygur's antisemitic ad. He says that his focus is on beating Mike Rogers, but disavowing the commercial would help him with that. It would be an easy way to show he doesn’t agree with this sort of anti-Jewish rhetoric. If he doesn’t agree, that is.

You can’t call out Stevens’ behavior without acknowledging that Uygur and Piker, El Sayed’s supposed allies, are causing him irreparable damage right now.

Thanks to Del. Laura Jane Cohen, Del. Kathy Tran, and volunteers for showing up to knock doors for our statewide constitutional amendments today! On Tuesday, Virginians can enshrine important freedoms in our constitution:
 1️⃣ Reproductive freedom
2️⃣ Marriage equality
3️⃣ Voting rights Vote YES on 1, 2, and 3.

Rabbi Debra Newman Kamin grew up in Michigan and is a lifelong Democrat. She never thought she’d see the day when our community would have to beg the Democratic nominee for Senate to listen to us and hear our concerns. From the start, our door has been wide open. All we’ve asked is for Dr. El-Sayed to come and talk with us. But week by week, that door keeps getting narrower. Rabbi Newman Kamin signed on to stand with the Jewish Michiganders working to keep that door open.

I’ve been a Democrat for 34 years. But I was a Jew and a Zionist before I was a Democrat. I believe in affordable healthcare, housing and helping working families. None of that requires me to excuse antisemitism. We should demand all of it from our candidates.

This kind of insane, unhinged, repugnant and hateful rhetoric threatens every single one of us in West Bloomfield. It is this kind of rhetoric that radicalizes people and incites them to violence.
🚨🚨 Abdul El-Sayed surrogate Hasan Piker crashes out over El-Sayed’s canvassers knocking doors in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Piker compares it to “going to that like Klan KKK neighborhood to stump for like a Black candidate.” “It’s racial supremacy. It’s Jewish supremacy. What do you think it is? Yeah, clip it and post it.” Piker, a dual citizen who grew up in Turkey, then rages at a Jewish Democrat in Oakland County who says she is voting for Mike Rogers: “If it’s so dangerous, go live in Israel… You fucking idiot. You fucking moron… You fucking psycho.”

If I was trying to harm Abdul's campaign, it would look a lot like the PR roll out we've seen from Cenk that started with his ad, then Hasan Piker’s bizarre tirade comparing the heavily Jewish community of West Bloomfield to a Ku Klux Klan neighborhood, and now this crazy, hyper online, conspiratorial statement about a TV ad Abdul denounced.

Hasan Piker outrageously compared Detroit's Jews to the KKK in his livestream last night, saying their "supremacist attitude" is "identical." It's disgusting to compare American Jews to a white supremacist extremist movement that terrorizes Black and Jewish Americans — and that @ADL has spent over a century fighting. The irony of comparing Jews to a movement whose very ideology is steeped in Jew hatred is apparently lost on him.

The goal of both antisemitism and Islamophobia is to sow distrust and division and tear communities apart — and the past 24 hours in Michigan are a textbook example. Just depressing all around.

Conflating Jews with whiteness is bad enough but this is next-level insanity. I mean, the white supremacists who stormed Charlottesville were chanting "Jews will not replace us!"
I cannot express how dangerous and harmful it is to perpetuate this “Jews are white supremacists” nonsense. I never thought, in my lifetime, I would see people repeating this. It’s horrifying.

In a screaming rant on his livestream, Hasan Piker compared the heavily Jewish community of West Bloomfield in the Detroit suburbs to a Ku Klux Klan neighborhood, describing it as full of Jewish supremacists. @marcrod97 reports: ji.news/5qqye

I’m proud to have the most talented, hardest-working cabinet in Virginia’s history. They are also the most diverse cabinet Virginia has ever seen. Every single one of our cabinet secretaries were selected because they’re the best of the best in their respective fields. They also bring invaluable perspectives from across the Commonwealth — from Danville, Hampton Roads, Richmond, NOVA, and more. I’m grateful to get to work with these incredibly dedicated, hard-working, and talented cabinet officials to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia. richmond.com/opinion/column/…

SCOOP @jewishinsider via @marcrod97: Abdul El-Sayed condemns Piker's antisemitic comments about the Jewish community of West Bloomfield, Mich. (home to Temple Israel, the synagogue a terrorist attacked in March) — but declined to speak out against Hasan Piker himself. Abdul Sayed, to @jewishinsider: "I grew up in the town over from West Bloomfield. Comparing Jewish Michiganders to the Ku Klux Klan is utterly inappropriate and flat out wrong. From day one, my campaign has been focused on rallying Michiganders of all stripes together into a movement that will bridge divides, not separate us more. Our canvassers will continue to knock doors and have important conversations with voters in every corner of the state.”

I'm glad El-Sayed said this -- but this is why you don't campaign with a Leninist who thinks all Zionists should be treated like Nazis teapawt.org/JoshKraushaar/status/2…

Something is going horribly wrong in the Senate race in Michigan. And I am going to keep calling it out. On the one hand, the Republicans are conducting a campaign of blatant anti-Muslim fear mongering. Mike Rogers, Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP need to knock it off. Mike needs to personally and repeatedly denounce hate against Muslims. But now, at the same time, we have TWO ads from the Democratic side that ALSO traffic in hate and intolerance — causing alarm for some Black and Jewish voters. Seriously— WTF ???? The first ad was from Rebellion PAC (NOT the official Abdul El-Sayyed campaign). It suggested that Americans can’t buy groceries because the USA sends so much money to Israel. That is a lie. The USA spends less than 00.1 percent of our federal budget on support for Israel. But this ad pretends bananas cost too much because the Jewish state is bleeding us dry. TOTALLY nuts. And yet — this kind of thinking has always put Jewish lives at risk. Blaming Jews for everyone’s economic problems has a long, bloody history. Abdul did try to separate himself from the ad. He accurately noted that his campaign didn’t produce it. But the problem is: if you listen, Abdul actually NEVER DENOUNCED the CONTENT of the ad. He never said, “This ad is wrong.” He just said, “Hey, it wasn’t me.” 😬😬😬 That ad — and Abdul’s refusal to forthrightly denounce it — is scaring some Jewish Democrats in Michigan, who now are more reluctant to vote for him. In other words, that one ad alone is jeopardizing our party’s shot at taking back the U.S. Senate. BUT IT GETS WORSE! Then Abdul’s formal, official campaign put out its OWN ad — which features none other than the vile and contemptible Tucker Carlson (!!!). As you know, Tucker Carlson is a rabid, anti-Black bigot who also traffics in anti-Jewish stereotypes. He is anathema to most Black people and most Jews. No Democrat should ever celebrate the words of a white nationalist who actively undermines the safety of Black people and Jewish people. Moreover, given the importance of Black and Jewish Democrats to our victory in Michigan, the decision to include Tucker Carlson in any Democratic ad there is truly baffling. Why am I speaking out about this now? Because I want Democrats to build a winning coalition — now and into the future. Chasing off any Black or Jewish voters is a path to defeat — both in the short term and the long term. As proud Democrats, it can feel uncomfortable or risky to speak against intolerance in our own party, especially just days before a national election. It would be easier for us to let this stuff slide, shut up and close ranks. But that would make us hypocrites. For 10 years, we Democrats have watched with dismay and disgust as Republicans (who know better) have refused to challenge ANY bad ideas or bad actions in their own ranks. As a result, their party curdled into a cult — one that is now wrecking the country AND falling apart. As Democrats, we should not make the same mistake. Anti-Muslim hate is wrong. Period. Anti-Jewish hate is wrong. Period. Tucker Carlson’s white nationalism is wrong. Period. All candidates in Michigan need to say that clearly— and then pull down/denounce any ads that normalize hate or elevate hate mongers.

There are multiple layers of dangerous hate: 1. Outright Islamophobia that’s become normalized. 2. Christian nationalism that suggests all non-Christians don’t belong here and there should be a religious test for office. It’s not partisan to call this out. It’s basic decency.
Moreno says El-Sayed can’t be a senator because he doesn’t understand that Jesus came here for our salvation.

Imagine sending your child to school only for them to be called a “dirty filthy Jew,” told they should be “gassed” in a concentration camp and physically assaulted. Now imagine school administrators excusing the abuse as a “crush,” placing your child in a class with a harasser and ultimately confining them to the principal’s office, where they miss out on assignments and learning opportunities. Absolutely appalling. No Jewish student should have to endure such vile antisemitism, let alone be failed by the very adults entrusted with keeping them safe. That's exactly why @ADL is taking action to hold the district accountable. adl.org/resources/press-rele…
