We could see David Stearns having a love affair with Brady Singer this off-season. Seems right up his alley…

If Christian Cairo was not on the 40-man roster, he would be eligible for minor league free agency. After today, teams cannot outright pending minor league free agents to the minors UNLESS they have a Major League Contract for 2027. This signing allows the Mets to DFA Cairo today (for 60-man IL activations) or at the R5 Protection deadline. If he then passes through OR waivers (ML deal gives him higher probability to do so), he would remain with the Mets, but off the 40-man roster. This is a common technique to build non-roster depth heading into the offseason. Many teams prefer non-tendering at Tender Deadline and then signing back on a cheaper minor league deal. However, those deals usually include assignment or release clauses while a Major League deal does not. Mets claimed Cairo off waivers in September. They likely had this planned since then.

The Mets have also claimed righty Pierson Ohl from the Rockies, according to a person familiar with the situation. Ohl was traded to the Rockies after being drafted and developed by, you guessed it, the Minnesota Twins.

If we didn’t have an abundance of outfielders… We’d take a chance on this upside

The #Orioles have released OF Heston Kjerstad after he cleared outright waivers, per @afkostka Kjerstad, 27, was the second overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft, but struggled to a .639 OPS over 117 MLB games across 4 seasons. Now he’ll look for a fresh start.

Nolan McLean has won the National League Gold Glove for pitchers. He’s the Mets first Gold Glove winner since Juan Lagares in 2014. He joins Ron Darling (1989) as the only Mets pitchers to win.
