Math can just include simple connections…
We’re learning about cubic functions in Algebra 2 today…so I compared the graph to the “s curve” freeway that goes through our city

Anyone have this balancing game in their classroom or at home?
Thinking this would be fun for students to design & 3d print & give to elementary classrooms

Looks like something a high school student could make as a bonus challenge in STEM class:
This desk model works like a real car engine. Key to start, pedal to go.
Turn the key and the motor roars to life. Press the pedal and it spins faster, exactly like hitting the gas.
Watch the three pistons on the stand. They pump up and down in sequence, just like the cylinders inside a real engine, and the harder you press, the faster they fire.
A key switch, a speed controller, a foot pedal, and a motor. The whole thing runs on a scrap of wood.
Everything your car does under the hood, shrunk to the size of your hand.
Me trying to buy 5 lightbulbs for our dining room fixture when the packages all come with 4 or 8 bulbs
Hey parents & teachers, have you seen this math & spatial manipulative?
The kindergarten kids I saw using them were doing some good thinking

Hey teachers, here’s a great news story that connect the World Series with prosthetic limbs for kids…
The last manager to take the Brewers to the World Series was a hard-living man who lived in the back of a bar and cracked jokes about his prosthetic leg.
These days, the legacy of Harvey Kuenn and his famed leg lives on via the Harvey Kuenn Foundation:

Wow, so clever!
My son put down his iPad at 10am and didn't ask for it back until dinner.
Not because I told him to. Because he was too busy designing a railway that climbed across our entire coffee table.

You know it’s a great engineering school when the football players can fix their own helmets on the sidelines

My students didn’t get the science themed group in Connections yesterday til the end…
But this is another reason why I like this game as a brain break, there’s always some idea to review or learn!

I've always thought highly of the Rocket Math Fact Fluency program. I've had students that were completing less than 10 multiplication facts correctly in two minutes at the beginning of the year. Most are above 30, some above 40 now with 6 weeks of practice. Yesterday, I asked them if they really liked doing fact practice in school and for homework. Only a couple raised their hands. I followed up with a particular student. She has improved significantly. She doesn't love doing it, but she said (with a smile) that it has really improved her fact fluency - practice has. This is a good learning experience for kids. Deliberate practice might not be fun, but in many instances is necessary in life. Within the first six weeks my math students completed just over 10,000 facts in the four operations (just over 2,500 facts for each operation). I'm moving to fraction fluency practice on Monday.

First time I've seen a legit infographic of Starship pushing Orion to the moon! They're also already modifying Orion to be able to handle being pushed by Starship. I like that things are being modified to follow common sense and not stuck in the "well it can't do that" as an excuse to do things poorly and compromised.
I talked with students from Kindergarten to College this week, & they all have one thing in common: they’ve come a long way
