It's now official.
The #WallStreetConsensus will soon be a book - about the return of the transformative state.
There may be some Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce macrofinancial jokes (she inflation targeting, he Big Finance) in it.

nice illustration of how The New School is strangling itself with admin bloat, management salaries, and real estate
The Burnham govt. looked at the slash and burn strategy of the Starmer government and decided you know what, why don't we make it worse for this crucial export sector

In our cover package:
The upheaval in France and elsewhere in Europe today is not about migrants, race or religion.
But it is about the failures of the state and the chronic weakness of centrist politics

A welcome reminder that the bond vigilantes in politicians' heads are often hedge fund, impatient, price speculators who do well when price up and lose their job when price down.

This is nuts. The ECB has the instruments to manage sovereign instability and won't risk repo spirals to please fiscal hawks.

Great @FT review by @dairemacfadden of my “The Age of Confiscation,” which “Like The Economic Weapon before it, … arrives just in time to inform a variety of contemporary debates about economic statecraft”. It’s out next week!

when my students resort to such 'actually, economics is depoliticized science' arguments, I ask them to read a mainstream economist's view of his tribe.
The fatal challenge to heterodox economics is that there isn't actually orthodox economics.
Just take a few recent Nobels: behavioral, information failure, institutions, bubbles, financial fragility, labor monopsony (sort of), Schumpeterian creative destruction, etc.
Not to mention RCTs which are emblematic of how much economic research is empirical and only lightly if at all structural.
The real difference is methods. Heterodox economics is an avowedly political project not a social scientific effort to better understand the world. And I have nothing against political projects just shouldn't confuse the two.
I then ask them to read Alan Greenspan's testimony to the Congress after 2008 - a central banker honest enough to admit that all economics is ideological.

Europe’s safe asset?
Irish governed bonds.
5, 10 and 30 year Irish bonds now yield LESS than their German equivalents
this is a cynical view of Melenchon&LFI strategies in general that speaks more about the limits of liberal politics/analytics
Why would @JLMelenchon incite violence knowing it will help Le Pen? Because he wants Le Pen to win and he becomes leader of the opposition. His people talk of a third round of the election "on the streets" if @MLP_officiel wins. If so, Saturday's violence will seem mild.
another great addition to the derisking literature, on the economic consequences of ordoliberal strategies in Germany's energy sector
