Pete “The Truth” North nails it again.
Under Labour, things are not going to get any better. You cannot tax your way to prosperity. Small fixes and helping hands don't change the fact that the fundamentals are broken, and are getting worse all the time. Redistributive policies make you poorer in the long run. An increase in minimum wage mean prices go up and fewer people are employed.
Meanwhile, taxes, red tape and regulation deter anyone from starting or expanding businesses. If being bigger and more successful means more administrative burden and more tax, there is no incentive to do better. Not forgetting that if energy is expensive then everything is expensive, and the more expensive it is, the less competitive we are. You can't export things if you can't afford to make them.
This is why the economy is stagnating. Our economic woes are self-inflicted. We are stifling our own growth, making infrastructure more expensive, and killing jobs in the process. As such, there is no recovery without addressing the fundamentals. Britain is over taxed, over regulated, over its head in debt, and more of the same is only going to make matters even worse.
You could have said this at any point in the last twenty five years. Britain cannot afford its spending, much less its welfare burden. The reason the country is so dilapidated is because we have hollowed out state capacity in order to maintain our lavish welfare systems. We cannot go on as we are without some major reforms. Reforms that will be painful.
I believe we are rapidly reaching a crunch point at which all of these factors converge - where we can't borrow any more and the economy cannot sustain our expectations of government. We are set to be much poorer - and colder.
Fixing this will require a complete reassessment of every base assumption of the last two decades. You cannot power a first world economy with windmills. We cannot have a quarter of the workforce claiming benefits. We cannot treat every ailment as a disability. We can't keep punishing innovation with regulation and tax. We cannot keep asset stripping the armed forces to pay for welfare. We cannot afford feed and cloth every hapless biped who rocks up with their hand out.
This, though is the central division in our politics. Labour would have us carry on as we are. Burnham will use out money to buy off his client groups, while keeping us shackled to the EU so that there can be no reform. We simply bleed out over the next decade.
This is what @robertjenrick's latest measures are designed to address. What Reform neglects to state, though, is that much of Jenrick's agenda puts us on a collision course with the EU because much of the Brexit deal is centred on non-regression. We are locked in to the status quo, just as we were as members of the EU. As such, the Brexit question was never satisfactorily resolved.
Burnham wants us to remain shackled to this corpse. We only need look to the rapid deindustrialisation of Germany to see how that pans out. Climate rules are destroying the European car industry - the beneficiary of which is China.
Britain can only reindustrialise if we break from the dogmas of EU. This is what made it necessary to leave in the first place. Since Brexit though, little has been done. We could have repealed the galaxy of EU directives that make everything more expensive and inefficient - but we didn't. The Westminster blob simply doesn't have the will to put us on the right track. Brexit was kicked into the long grass.
To a point, it's understandable. There isn't a popular consensus for making many of the necessary reforms. The dogmas are too deeply entrenched - both in politics and the wider population. The Tory party itself was and is captured by the green blob, and Kemi Badenoch remarked only as week that "of course we still need renewables". The Westminster mindset is anti-growth and anti-prosperity.
That's ultimately the result of thirty years of green propaganda. They will oppose any reform that liberates the economy. Until this is addressed, we are circling the drain, in a state of badly managed decline until we can barely even keep the lights on, and Britain finds itself bankrupt and defenceless.
What’s interesting about Jenrick's reform measures is that they mainly remove artificial inhibitors on growth. Britain’s stagnation is wholly self-inflicted (with a little help from the EU. We’d be a lot better off even even half of them were implemented, but the left would fight to the death to stop any one of them being implemented.
That is the fundamental division in our politics now. It is continuity Brexit politics, up against a ruling class that will tolerate no deviation from the status quo. As @SebMilbank put it this morning, "Much of this is because they have no actual vision of the nation's future, beyond an end of history secular humanist internationalism". Moreover, conceding the need for reform means admitting they've been wrong about absolutely everything for the last half century.

Unbelievable.
Britain is ALREADY holding talks with the EU about a return to free movement, The Times reports.
Only 16 weeks after Burnham told Makerfield he wouldn’t “re-open” Brexit.
There is absolutely no democratic mandate for this.

🚨🇺🇸 BRAELYN’S STORY JUST MADE FOX BUSINESS! 🇺🇸🚨
What an incredible moment for our family!
Today on Varney & Co., Stuart Varney brought up Steve Moore’s recent Rasmussen Reports article about Braelyn and the barriers seriously ill Americans face in accessing promising experimental treatments!
Steve shared Braelyn’s story and called out the FDA, saying it’s CRUEL to withhold promising investigational treatments from desperately ill patients.
Varney agreed, arguing that patients facing terminal illnesses should have the freedom to accept the risks of experimental treatments without liability concerns preventing companies from providing them.
Then Steve asked a powerful question:
“Whatever happened to my body, my choice?”
He also pointed out that President Trump supports Right to Try, yet significant barriers remain between patients and the treatments they desperately need.
THIS is the conversation we’ve been fighting to bring into the national spotlight!
Our 19-year-old daughter is attending college, and her latest MRI shows no evidence of cancer recurrence. Yet we still have to travel to ENGLAND for her ongoing DCVax-L treatments—developed right here in AMERICA!
We are so incredibly grateful to Steve Moore and Stuart Varney for bringing attention to Braelyn’s story and, more importantly, to the countless patients who deserve a fighting chance.
Patients facing life-threatening illnesses shouldn’t have to fight their own government for the opportunity to fight for their lives.
PLEASE WATCH AND SHARE! ❤️🙏

Czesław Kiszczak nakazał - zgodnie to popiera.
Proszę alarmować gdzie się da - nie tylko w kraju, ale i za granicą. To jest coś niewiarygodnego - ale to JEST!
5 listopada protestujemy w Warszawie - ale tu potrzeba środków bardziej skutecznych. Myślmy nad nimi - i działajmy! Bo niedługo przyjdą po nas.

Why were Jonathan Powell, Peter Mandelson and Lord Hermer appointed without vetting?
The answer is that Chagos was a deal Starmer couldn't refuse to make.
Here's a timeline of the key stages of the Chagos treachery.
In 1982, after it became known that the Chagos seabed may contain vast mineral wealth, Mauritius set up a select committee to examine the matter.
However, sea-mining technology was in its infancy, and it was too expensive to be commercially viable at that time.
In 2003, as underwater mining technologies advanced and the value of minerals and rare earth elements soared, mining the Chagos seabed became an exciting possibility again; Mauritius appointed the eminent international barrister Sir Ian Brownlie as advisor for the Chagos Archipelago.
A former member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, Brownlie was a good friend of Sir Satcam Boolell, a former Labour deputy prime minister of Mauritius, and High Commissioner in London.
In 2009, Brownlie led the first Mauritius delegation to the Foreign Office in London seeking a Chagos deal.
Among the delegation was Sir Satcam Boolell's son Satyajit, who became Mauritius Director of Public Prosecutions the same year.
In 2010, after Brownlie died in a motor accident in Egypt, Sir Keir Starmer’s “great mate”, Philippe Sands, a leading human-rights lawyer who has publicly boasted of humiliating the UK in international courts, took over as counsel to Mauritius for Chagos.
In 2013, Satyajit Boolell invited Keir Starmer, whom he had become friendly with during Starmer's time as the UK's DPP, to a legal conference at the 5-star Balaclava resort in Mauritius.
During the trip, Starmer discussed the future of the Chagos Archipelago with then Mauritius prime minister Navin Ramgoolam.
After Starmer’s 2013 visit, Ramgoolam wrote that he and Starmer were aligned over Chagos.
In 2015, Ramgoolam was arrested on money-laundering charges when large sums of cash in foreign currencies, suitcases full of brand-new luxury watches, and blank British visas were found in his home.
Also in 2015, Starmer was elected to the British Parliament.
In 2019, Philippe Sands, after a campaign of lobbying the UN, obtained an International Court of Justice ruling (advisory opinion only, and non-binding) that the Chagos islands should be given to Mauritius.
Sands used the ICJ ruling as leverage in the following years in his efforts to persuade the Conservative government to give Chagos to Mauritius.
In 2020, Starmer became leader of the Labour Party.
In 2021, Sands received Mauritius' top honour, The Most Distinguished Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean.
In 2022, Sands made an unauthorized entry into the Chagos Archipelago for a flag-raising ceremony. Sands tweets at the time, “It’s morning on Chagos, where the flag of Mauritius flies."
In 2023, Sands became a Mauritius citizen, but retains his British and French citizenships.
🧧In November 2023, David Cameron replaced James Cleverly as Foreign Secretary and, with the support of other senior Tories, stopped a Chagos deal saying, it’s not in the national interest, as reported in Hansard.
In July 2024, Starmer became UK Prime Minister and just ten weeks after entering Downing Street, he agreed a deal with Mauritius, despite there having been no mention of Chagos during the election campaign, and the Labour manifesto pledging to protect the BOT.
in November of 2024, Ramgoolam was elected Mauritius prime minister again after a snap general election, and took over from the incumbent PM, Pravind Jugnauth, to lead the Chagos negotiations with the UK.
In December 2024, after 14 years in the role, Philippe Sands steps down as Mauritius counsel for Chagos.
In January 2025, Attorney General Lord Hermer recused himself from signing off on the Chagos deal, and declined to say why.
In February 2025, Jugnauth was arrested on money-laundering charges after large sums of cash in foreign currencies and suitcases full of brand-new luxury watches were found in his home.
In May 2025, twelve years after discussing the future of Chagos in Mauritius, Starmer and Ramgoolam sat down in London to sign the treaty that transfers the archipelago's sovereignty to Mauritius.
The Fall Out.
The Chagos deal does🟥NOT secure the joint UK/US military base on Diego Garcia.
The deal operationally hobbles the base, and increases the dangers to the British and American military personnel, and the civilians who work there, and in the wider Central Indian Ocean region.
Diego Garcia's remoteness made it easy to defend in the past. This deal leaves the base horribly vulnerable to the growing threats posed by the new longer-range missiles, and more sophisticated and lethal drones.
When Keir Starmer, Lord Hermer and Vijay Rangarajan, the Director General at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, made the deal it was fully understood that the outer islands of the Chagos Archipelago were by far the best locations to deploy early warning, and air-defense systems, to protect the main base from missile and drone attacks.
Yet they still decided to lease only Diego Garcia.
Andy Burnham, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, and Defense Minister Wes Streeting, know the deal increases the dangers to the lives of British service personnel, and our NATO allies personnel, in the strategically important Central Indian Ocean region.
To double down and push the deal with that knowledge is a shameful act of betrayal.
While the deal leaves Diego Garcia vulnerable to attack, it also renders the base itself ineffective and operationally hobbled.
Mauritius is a signatory of the Pelindaba African Weapon-Free Zone Treaty which bans all nuclear weapons from treaty members' territory.
Pelindaba gives each of the more the 40 countries who have signed it the right to inspect the facilities on Diego Garcia if they suspect nuclear arms are being stored there.
The UK's nuclear-armed Trident submarines will no longer be able to enter Chagos waters, or visit Diego Garcia which is the only island in the region which has suitable anchorage and facilities for maintenance and restocking provisions, etc.
The US's nuclear-armed submarines, ships, and planes will also be banned from Diego Garcia and the Chagos Archipelago's waters.
Mauritius gets complete sovereignty over everything, including control of the airspace above the Chagos Archipelago, which at 250,000 square miles is the same size as France.
The implications of controlling such a vast area of airspace in a strategically vital region are huge.
Mauritius has shown it will ban planes entering its current airspace when China asks.
The Chagos Deal does not ‘secure the base’. It methodically destroys every element required for operations. The text and annexes state it will:
❌Constrain future Ops and use of the base
❌Prevent the placing of sensors and other maritime installations
❌Require us to sight our foes on defence planning
❌Mean we’re unable to use our preferred contractors
❌See us lose of control over electromagnetic spectrum.

Astounding Sunday Times investigation reveals new scandal in SNP’s Socialist Scotland:
800 NHS, central government, council and quango workers whose jobs no longer exist but remain on the public payroll because of the SNP’s ‘no public-sector redundancy’ policy.
Estimated cost of paying people to do nothing: £27m a year.
One NHS Highland worker has been receiving a full salary and benefits for 17 years despite not having a specific job.
The health board refused to say what the worker had been doing for almost two decades and how much they had been paid.
Likely cost to the taxpayer is expected to be far higher with several public bodies refusing to disclose salaries for hundreds of the workers awaiting redeployment.

One thing that's surprised me about Andy Burnham is the extent to which he just lies.
He says this morning small boats are because of Brexit and "we can't return people".
The FACTS:
In last 5 years of Dublin agreement the UK took in far more migrants than it sent back.
2016: net 200
2017: net 150
2018: net 1000
2019: net 500
2020: net 800
Five years = net 2,500 more migrants than sent back.
Plus, now we'd have to sign up to the migration and asylum pact so the numbers will be enormous.
He knows this. His advisors know this.
They are just lying to you.

I’ve written many times about how the soft left on Labour’s backbenches are ‘economic illiterates’. This is proof positive. Beyond redemption in its misunderstanding of markets, supply, demand, taxes.
Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply.
Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply.
Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents.

🚨 THERE IT IS. IN THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS.
THIS IS WHAT YOU ALL WANTED. CLEAR, DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE OF ORGANISED LOBBYING, LEGAL CHALLENGES AND CAMPAIGNING TO CHANGE UK IMMIGRATION POLICY.
And it comes directly from Care4Calais's own financial statements and annual reports.
Care4Calais isn't just providing humanitarian aid. Its annual reports document years of organised campaigning, lobbying and legal challenges against UK government immigration policies.
HERE'S WHAT THEIR OWN REPORTS REVEAL:
📄 2022 — Annual Report, pp. 5–7
Launched the Stop Rwanda campaign, lobbied for policy changes, challenged the Home Office's pushback policy and distributed legal-help contact leaflets in Calais.
💷 2022 — Financial Accounts, p. 21
Raised £124,797 in a restricted legal fund specifically to challenge the government's Rwanda policy.
⚖️ 2023 — Annual Report, p. 6
Supported 763 people facing possible Rwanda removal and initiated its own legal challenge against the government's use of RAF Wethersfield.
💷 2023 — Financial Accounts, p. 21
Recorded £149,282 in expenditure from its Rwanda legal fund.
📄 2025 — Annual Report, p. 6
Distributed leaflets in France advising people detained after arriving in Britain how to obtain legal assistance to challenge detention and removal.
📨 2025 — Annual Report, pp. 9–10
Reported over 43,000 supporter advocacy actions, including more than 13,000 emails to MPs and 5,000 to the Prime Minister.
🏛️ 2025 — Annual Report, p. 9
Documented meetings with trade unions, parliamentary groups, campaign alliances and Home Office representatives.
💷 2025 — Annual Report, p. 4
Confirmed that local Care4Calais groups had received funding from local authorities.
🚨 NOW HERE'S THE CONNECTION THAT NEEDS SCRUTINY.
On 25 March 2025, the PCS union and Care4Calais jointly launched a proposal for new visa-to-travel routes into Britain.
PCS represents civil servants working in Border Force and the Home Office.
The union confirmed Home Office members helped develop the proposal, which was intended to lobby politicians.
So a union representing people involved in administering Britain's borders was working with a charity actively challenging government immigration policy.
IS THAT ILLEGAL?
Not automatically. Civil servants have trade-union rights. Charities can lawfully campaign and challenge government decisions.
But I believe the public deserves answers.
Who authorised these activities? Were Civil Service impartiality rules respected? How were the campaigns financed? Was public grant funding kept separate from lobbying and litigation?
And who was accountable for ensuring those boundaries were respected?
The evidence of organised campaigning is in their own published records. It does not establish organised crime or unlawful conduct.
I'm following the money, the partnerships and the paper trail.
Care4Calais charity number: 1169048.

UK Treasury confirms extra £20bn over five years for the so-called National Wealth Fund (£15bn) and the state-owned British Business Bank (£5bn), which lends to business.
Treasury claims this will support around 100,000 jobs by 2035 in AI, defence and green energy — a figure it has pretty much plucked out of thin air and will never really be tested because by 2035 everyone will have forgotten such a modest announcement.
Two takeaways:
Yet more government borrowing. It’s an addiction.
Illustrates government philosophy: growth will come from a bigger, more activist state. Ho hum.

I must now also report my company's income every three months rather than once a year, as well as a final report at year end.
So I now have to pay for a Xero subscription.
And pay my accountant more for the increased submissions.
And fuck about with reconciling every three months, rather than once a year.
For HMRC to end up with the same amount of income from me as before.
