If you ever wanted to chat with me but didn't have a chance, I have some free slots in the next few months. There's a set of predefined topics, but you can always choose "Something else" if you're brave enough 🍪

Great insights from @DjevaLoperka at the Open Source CMS conference in Utrecht: The best documentation is written by the ones using it!

Six months later, you may remember what you changed in the code, but not why you made that decision.
@DjevaLoperka explains why documenting the reasoning behind code decisions helps you avoid repeating mistakes and makes it easier to understand whether an issue should be worked around, fixed, or improved.

Writing developer notes or field guides takes more than documenting how something works.
@DjevaLoperka explains why you need to understand priorities, related features, and how different audiences use WordPress before you can write useful developer documentation.

I'll be speaking at @CMSconf_ in Gdynia this November!
I’m looking forward to meeting new people from other CMS communities, but also to catch up with familiar faces from the #WordPress community, all of whom will be speaking; Mike Miler, @Bovelett, @rmelogli, @RaitisSevelis, @DjevaLoperka, Marcel Bootsman, and many others.
I'll also be giving a talk about WordPress session hijacking, and why securing the login process alone isn't always enough.
If you're attending, come say hello!

When you solve a technical issue, record what happened and how you fixed it.
@DjevaLoperka explains how keeping one working document for errors, credentials, configuration details, and fixes can save time later. The next issue may not be exactly the same, but you already have a useful reference point.

Why isn’t code alone enough as software documentation?
In this episode of The Melapress Show, @robertabela speaks with @DjevaLoperka, a WordPress Documentation Team representative and WordPress Engineer at XWP, about what useful documentation looks like in practice.

🗓️ New Melapress Show episode: tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. CET
In the next episode, @robertabela speaks with @DjevaLoperka, a WordPress Documentation Team representative and WordPress Engineer at XWP, about why code alone is not enough and how documentation can become a more natural part of the software development process.
They also discuss:
▫️ Why good documentation is never really “finished”
▫️ Why documenting decisions can save time later
▫️ How WordPress handles documentation during release cycles
▫️ Where AI can actually help with documentation work
How can teams make documentation easier to maintain and more useful over time? Watch the full conversation tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. CET. 🙌

Tomorrow's episode of the @melapressHQ
Show is about something we all agree is important, yet often leave until later (or never gets done): documentation.
I'm joined by @DjevaLoperka, a long-time #WordPress #documentation contributor. Milana sees documentation as part of the engineering process, not something you write once development is finished.
I agree with her, even though unfortunately I don't always follow that approach myself.
During this episode we couldn't not talk about AI, the FAIR project, and Doc2Me, a project Milana started at the CloudFest Hackathon to explore automating some of the repetitive parts of software documentation.
Documentation might not be the sexiest thing on the internet, but when you tried a new software or needed to do something at a new job and it was missing, you definitely noticed.
If you can relate, then watch the episode which will be streaming tomorrow at 16:00 CET / 10:00 AM Eastern.

For centuries, humans thought they were the smartest creatures on Earth. It might be safe to say that babies, born today, would always have AI as something smarter.

Only at #WCBGD ❤️ – at Belgrade, Republic of Serbia
Good morning Belgrade! Today I’m speaking at #WCBGR about successfully selling website relaunches in B2B, using accessibility as the most convincing argument, without naming it.
Yesterday was great. Day one had all talks in Serbian, and the rest of us hung out in the hallway track and/or went in the arranged walking tours through the city.
The organization and volunteers of WordCamp Belgrade have done an outstanding job, organizing this event. It’s like a warm bath.

Seriously, @SiteGround , why are you making GIT and SSH so complicated?

This summer, we’ve been working on a few changes to The Melapress Show to make it even more useful for you, our listeners. 🎙️
Going forward, we’re aiming for two episodes per month, usually on the first and third Thursday.
And we already have some great conversations coming up:
🔌 @frantorres, WordPress.org Plugins team representative, joining us to discuss plugin access to WordPress Core and what plugin developers should know.
🔐 @kathyzant, security consultant with 20+ years of information security experience, on why websites get hacked, the mistakes she sees most often, and recurring patterns behind security incidents.
📚 @DjevaLoperka, WordPress.org Documentation team representative, on WordPress documentation from an engineer’s perspective and the role good documentation plays in the wider project.
We’d also like to bring your questions into these conversations.
Is there anything you’d like us to ask Francisco, Kathy, or Milana? Drop your questions below, and we’ll try to cover them in the upcoming episodes. 👇
