The Ministry has intensified screening at border points and Entebbe International Airport, strengthened community surveillance and expanded cross-border support, including establishing three treatment units in the DRC with a combined capacity of 240 beds. Dr. Baryomunsi called for continued public cooperation with health measures and stronger regional collaboration to contain Ebola at its source and protect communities from further spread. That person you’re keeping at home this weekend without making things official is a legally recognised Ugandan citizen. Why not make it official, easily and affordably, with @NIRA_Ug ? Love is beautiful, but making it legal is even better. #OpenGovUg

This will in turn enable expansion of Uganda’s industrial and productive capacity.” said @SwedEnvoyUganda, Anna-Maria Olsson, at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Karuma Tororo transmission line. She added: “As Team Sweden, we look forward to not only the completion of this project but also to strengthening our longstanding collaboration with Uganda in the energy sector through capacity building, renewable energy development, grid infrastructure, and project financing.”

The project involves approximately 347 kilometres of transmission lines traversing 15 districts, alongside associated substations. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Hon. Dr Monica Musenero said the project will provide critical infrastructure to support industries, create jobs and accelerate Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. She urged contractors and engineers to commence work promptly, deliver quality infrastructure within the planned 36 months and ensure that the project benefits Ugandans. She also called on local suppliers to participate and communities along the route to protect the infrastructure against vandalism. UETCL Board Chairperson Kwame Ejalu said the project complements Uganda’s investments in electricity generation, including the 600MW Karuma Hydropower Plant, by strengthening the transmission network needed to deliver reliable power to homes, businesses and industries. He emphasised accountability, value for money, quality workmanship and fair compensation for project-affected persons. The Ambassador of Sweden to Uganda, H.E. Anna Maria, reaffirmed Sweden’s commitment to Uganda’s energy development, highlighting the longstanding partnership involving Swedish companies, financing institutions and the Government of Uganda. She noted that the project would strengthen electricity transmission, support investment and create opportunities for regional power trade. The project aligns with Government’s industrialisation agenda and long-term development plans, with reliable electricity expected to support business growth, employment creation and improved livelihoods.
