The end goal is profit, or more so, the appearance of growth and momentum so that shareholders can profit. Employing people as people and not variables on a spreadsheet could slow that growth or, oh no, result in a sustainable, but 'stagnant' company. So they pull the ladder up.

I just don’t understand why they place AI over people. Why wouldn’t someone want to employ people, which supports their lives, families and communities? What’s the end goal, wreck society? All so their greedy asses can have even more money, and for what? Sorry to hear that.
