This is why people hate greedy, unethical @Microsoft. They’ve just installed an update on the computer of every user of Mac @Office 2021 that bricks Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. We all have perpetual licences for Office 2021 but apparently Microsoft decided it was time to try to make everyone pay them money, even though the licence was supposed to be a one-off purchase. After some trial and error, this fix worked for me – posting here for anyone having the same problem: 1. Delete the Office apps (Word etc.) from the Applications folder 2. Download and run the Microsoft licence removal tool: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?lin… 3. Download and install the version of Office for Mac from 6th October 2026: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/of… 4. Enter your original licence code for Office to activate it 5. In the Finder, go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Microsoft and delete the MAU2.0 folder 6. Open Word, then go to the Word menu, then About Microsoft Word and check that it shows your licence 7. Still in Word, go to the Help menu, and make sure that the Check for updates option isn’t there 8. Don’t update Office for Mac and it should keep working – you need to keep updates off or Microsoft will install an update that bricks Office all over again What a waste of time.

According to the book, Kushner got Tillerson fired for a $50 million UAE payment because Tillerson supported Qatar. This panicked Qatar because they realized Kushner was a pay-to-play operative, so they bought Kushner's New York City apartments, which were in the red, hoping this would help.
This book is really damning for Kushner. It claims the UAE paid Kushner $50 million to get Rex Tillerson fired as Secretary of State.

About the ongoing revolution in America, Swedish King Gustav III writes: “It is such an interesting drama to see a nation create itself, that I, if I now had not been who I am, would go to America to follow up close every phase in the emergence of this new republic. This is perhaps America’s century. This new republic […] may perhaps take advantage of Europe some day, in the same manner as Europe has taken advantage of Europe for two centuries.”

Also worth noting Japan was deeply factuonalised in this era, army vs navy vs civilian govt, no one faction fully governed the other. Wasn’t the Mukden incident, which triggered China vs Japan war, the inititiave of local commanders, forcing their superiors hand?

Good / But Not Good that you have to announce that you're NOT sacking your manager. Man Utd press on, somehow have become an unfixable club
🚨 Manchester United have decided to continue with Michael Carrick as head coach. Despite Bournemouth and Como defeats, #MUFC hierarchy decides to give Carrick more time to fix things. Player also informed. Up next: Chelsea-Man United on Saturday. Carrick will be there.

it's a total over reaction. Mao was unequivocally a dictator, and he probably would not have minded the label at all. Additionally, not sure where the insult is here? On team Mbappe on this one
Mbappé's Weibo acc has been suspended. His Xiaohongshu (RedNote) acct restricted. All Chinese sponsorship withdrawn. Mbappé has apologzed but is it enough?

Acemoglu won some sort of prize for talking about the superiority of institutions. It was obviously ideological crazy talk.
Daron Acemoglu has a theory of why nations fail and it informs his views on AI. It overrates broad political participation and poorly explains the post-WWII world. It underrates human capital and the extent to which productivity boosts raise all boats. richardhanania.com/p/daron-a…

Interesting
1/ Brazil’s 2026 runoff looked like 2022 on the surface: Lula 50.9% then, 51.8% now. Underneath, the vote moved in opposite directions. I matched ~500k polling sections to 441k census tracts to see where. 🧵

In fact, it's time to carefully revisit what OpenAI predicted on job market impact in early 2023. Mathematicians were #1 on their list. arxiv.org/abs/2303.10130
I made this prediction 3 years ago, in July 2023. Few attending my talk believed me back then. In retrospect, replace was not quite the right word. AI won’t replace any fields. Instead, it will fundamentally reshape, and is already reshaping, fields by rewarding deep connections to real-world challenges and other disciplines.

EU gas is above €90/MWh, its highest since Dec 2022. Brent is above $115, its highest since June 2022. The EU has already paid €100bn+ extra for oil and gas since Hormuz closed. Not one extra molecule. Best defence: electrify. janrosenow.substack.com/p/eu…

GEO is all about answering questions better than your competitors. The better your answers, the more likely you are to be included in the answer. Here's where your larger competitors are most likely to give poor answers. This is where you should focus.
