In 1962, my grandad Birch ran for office, but there was one problem - nobody knew how to pronounce our name. So his campaign came up with a jingle to help voters remember it.
As we approach Election Day, I wanted to bring that tune back and put my own spin on it.
My grandad’s example inspired me to believe in the power of public service to make a real difference in people’s lives. He helped pass the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, authored the constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18 so that the young Americans fighting and dying in Vietnam would have a voice in choosing their leaders, and championed Title IX, opening doors for generations of women in college athletics.
I’m proud to carry on that tradition of service in my own way.

Medicaid coverage for Indiana children has fallen by 20%, the most of any state. Hoosier Democrats are running to make sure no child in Indiana goes without the care or coverage they need. More uninsured children & families means higher costs for everyone.

The price of unleaded gasoline is up 46% from Feb. 28, the day war started with Iran. And that’s with the state gas tax suspended completely. Diesel has been at all-time high prices for two months. Hoosiers need new leadership that stands up for families.

The court ruled Gov. Braun and Republican lawmakers violated the Indiana Constitution by sneaking a measure to close the rural Union School District in a separate bill with no public input. Republican-control at the Statehouse is out of step with the law.
