On September 22, SoFi, a US bank with 15.8 million members, went live running its entire debit and credit card program on Mastercard's network using SoFiUSD. That's SoFi's own stablecoin, a crypto dollar built to stay worth $1.
Nothing changes for the person holding the card. You tap, you get your coffee, you leave. What changes is what happens after. The shop owner can get that money instantly and withdraw it around the clock at zero cost, instead of waiting days for it to land.
SoFi and Mastercard first announced this in March. Six months later, it's live.
