Replying to @RaiderACE562
I was in the building during those negotiations, so I know firsthand what actually transpired.
The City of Oakland wanted to use a developer the NFL refused to approve. That same developer expected a 25% ownership stake in the Raiders without contributing a single dollar of capital to the project. Let that sink in.
We had architectural renderings and plans to build a new stadium on the existing Coliseum site. In fact, it was our preferred location because of the existing infrastructure and ingress/egress advantages. All we asked was for the city and county to help fund the necessary infrastructure improvements.
As a last resort, we even offered John Fisher an ownership stake in the Raiders to help get a deal across the finish line. He declined.
We subsequently purchased land in Carson, contingent upon NFL approval, but the Ramsโ relocation to Los Angeles effectively eliminated that option.
Las Vegas became a legitimate opportunity largely because of Napoleon McCallumโs longstanding relationship with Sheldon Adelson. Adelson also wanted a significant ownership stake in exchange for his financial involvement. Ultimately, negotiations broke down over ownership, and the Raiders moved forward without having to give or sell him a stake in the team.
Now, hereโs where the irony becomes absolutely fucking spectacular.
Ray is a fucking dumbshit, and thereโs a reason the Warriors packed their bags and left Oakland.
The City of Oakland repeatedly undermined opportunities to retain its professional sports franchises while protecting the interests of John Fisher, the same asshole who stood in the way of the Warriors building an arena in Oakland and the Raiders developing a new stadium at the Coliseum.
And what did Oakland get for its loyalty?
The Warriors left, The Raiders left, & Fisher, the very guy Oakland had been politically and financially cozying up to, ultimately took the Athletics to Las Vegas for a better opportunity.
Three professional franchises gone, and the one ownership group Oakland bent over backward to accommodate delivered the final kick in the teeth.
You genuinely couldnโt write a better story about political incompetence, misplaced loyalty, and the consequences of spectacularly shitty leadership.
Oakland didnโt just lose three teams. Its leadership helped create the very circumstances that drove them away.

Five years yesterday since we lost the great Ray Fosse. Iโll never forget the glee in Bill Kingโs voice when Ray would join us on @Athletics Radio. โA Fosse Day!โNobody loved the Aโs or loved baseball more than Ray. We miss him every day.
5 years ago, todayโฆwe lost the heart and soul of the *Oakland Aโs.
He was the face of the franchise and the voice of our summerโs.
We miss you Fosse, we love you Ray. ๐๐ค

Sam Fuld was offered the Aโs job as president of baseball operations but declined to take it and has withdrawn from consideration, sources tell ESPN. Fuld, who was previously GM of Philadelphia, will remain in his current role as president of business operations for the Phillies.

One thing we did during those final couple seasons was post all the opposing teamโs broadcast. We had to look elsewhere for honesty and tribute during that final year because the Aโs executive team simply didnโt care.
None did it better than the Rangers broadcast.
Hereโs all the clips from the 9.26.24 broadcast in no particular order.

Single best outing of my career. So impactful for the season too.
Fourteen years ago today, my guy @jerryblevins picked up the biggest save of the 2012 Oakland Athletics season, and I was there live to see it.
How quiet was Angel Stadium on that game ending 5-4-3 Double Play?
You can hear me & 1B Brandon Moss screaming in celebration ๐

The most unusual aspect of these firings is the timing. A's prospects are arriving in AZ this week for the instructional league. These changes usually occur in the offseason or after you've hired a new head of baseball ops. Could just be cost-cutting ahead of potential lockdown.

Fisher choosing to bet on the lockout instead of the success of his own franchise. Classic.

John Fisher is cutting operational costs to prepare for a lockdown, just like he did when he stopped paying minor leaguers during COVID & had the Aโs retweet a gofundme link for Webby, instead of stepping up for a beloved employee who was on a ventilator at the time.
