72 million doesn't buy you a prayer card?
NEW @Telegraph understands Nigel Farage did not display a valid date stamp on his prayer card and it was removed as per Chamber protocol. I also understand Mr Farage did not attend prayers and did not approach Commons staff regarding a seat reservation. telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

The Chancellor's budget was far too timid. Our economy is rigged in favour of big banks, energy giants and tech companies. The Liberal Democrats want to make them pay their fair share, tackle injustice and deliver lasting relief from the cost of living crisis. @JoshBabarinde

Clearly turns up to Parliament so seldom he doesn't know how prayer cards work. You actually have to turn up for Prayers to confirm your seat.
Nigel Farage was unable to attend the Budget in the Commons because his seat reservation was removed, The Telegraph understands. The Reform UK leader’s prayer card — a green slip of paper that backbench MPs put on a spot on the green benches to reserve their seat — was moved after it was placed this morning. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/business/202…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Farage's prayer card lacked a valid date stamp and was removed per House of Commons protocol. MPs confirm seats were available unreserved and he did not attend prayers to secure one. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/… x.com/hope_sapphire/…

Britain needs a government that stands up for British interests, not one making us dependent on an unpredictable US president. We need an economic plan with Europe at its centre, to make us richer, safer, and stronger.

Today's Budget revealed a concerning truth: Labour lacks a serious vision for Britain on the world stage. At a time of global instability, foreign policy cannot be an afterthought. What does this Budget tell us about Labour's international priorities? 🧵

The budget was another missed opportunity. Despite the “change and hope” rhetoric, it’s clear the PM is still hamstrung by out-of-date positions - most notably on Europe. More detail from Daisy ⬇️
🧵 Today, our country needed a Budget that would strike a better deal with Europe to grow our economy, cut people's bills and put our country on a path to lower taxes. Instead, we got a steady-as-she-goes Budget that just won't cut it. This isn't the change Labour promised.

💰Our economy is rigged in favour of big energy, big banks and big tech who take our money, but don’t take responsibility. ⛓️‍💥We needed the Budget to break their grip on us by making them pay their fair share to help cut bills beyond the short-term. 👎The Budget fell short of the radical change we need. 📉Families, pensioners and small biz will pay the price in the long-term. 🚀Where’s the ambition? 🇪🇺 And where was ANY mention of fixing our broken relationship with Europe to grow our economy?!

A damp squib for Wales. 🥀 Less additional funding for Wales than last year's Budget, barely any new investment in our infrastructure and economy, and little to help young people. Wales needs ambition and a serious plan for growth. This Budget delivers neither.

I agree: this is unacceptable. We @LibDems continue to call for an Essential Energy Guarantee that gives everyone an avg £100 rising to £180 for the disabled and those on lowest incomes. Targeted energy support is good for those in energy poverty and good for the tax payer.
Replying to @resfoundation
It’s unacceptable that the Gvmt still hasn’t found a way to target help at those who need it most. The rebate is near-universal, with 80% of households in England eligible. Yet it will still miss one-in-eight of the poorest half of families (1.4 million households) who live in higher band homes.

Deeply disappointed not to hear the word education once in the Chancellor’s speech today. Extra books for kids - great. But nowhere near enough - school budgets stretched, teachers’ pay unfunded and a SEND black hole. How can that not be addressed?

This country needed the Chancellor to be bold today. Bold on Europe. Bold on growth. Unfortunately this budget does not cut it. @LibDemDaisy

Having resigned over defence underfunding, the Chancellor knows the risks - yet has now kicked the can down the road himself. What a real missed opportunity to launch Lib Dem Defence Bonds, rebuild our military and drive R&D growth. A disappointing day for our national security.

Today’s Budget barely mentioned the NHS: nothing on doctors, nurses, dentists, maternity. Our health service urgently needs its front door, back door and roof fixed. The Chancellor said almost nothing about how the Government plans to do any of that. 🧵

The Government are killing the Milburn reforms before they are even announced. How can we end the pipeline of young people not in education, employment or training when school funding keeps shrinking year on year?

We need a real growth plan with Europe at its heart. Labour must fix the Conservatives' botched Brexit deal by joining the single market and a customs union, and use the billions that raises to cut people's taxes.
Big downgrade in GDP growth forecast for next year from OBR 2026: 1.2% (was 1.1 in spring forecast) 2027: 1% (1.6) 2028: 1.6% (1.6) 2029: 1.8% (1.5) 2030: 1.7% (1.5) 2031: 1.6%

After years of government chaos and failure, we can only end the brutal cost of living crisis and fix broken public services if we get the economy growing. We need a real growth plan with Europe at its heart.

Labour must fix the Conservatives' botched Brexit deal by joining the single market and a customs union, using the billions that it raises to cut people's taxes and cut people’s bills. Until the Government plucks up the courage to do that, any Budget will just tinker around the edges.
