I think the fact that Marissa Mayer would voluntarily disclose this to a reporter is a pretty good demonstration of how deeply the culture of Silicon Valley has diverged from the rest of humanity

Just to be clear, as I don’t see a lot of folks pointing this out or acknowledging this: Bolsonaro also formally asked for polling stations to be kept open another two hours!

The comparisons to post-UDI Rhodesia & Apartheid-era South Africa are too generous to Israel.
The Bernie team tried to get this into the Democratic platform in 2016, the Clinton team blocked it.
We tried again in 2020, the Biden team blocked it.
Glad folks are coming around but it’s absurd that it’s taken this long on what should be a noncontroversial point of fact.
One of many critical points in Jon Finer's excellent post-elections Israel policy agenda for Democrats: "A new approach should also start from the principle that U.S. policy will distinguish occupied territory and Israel proper."

This is a coup attempt. They’re turning off traffic lights and canceling bus routes and flights and ferries on election day. The world needs to be paying attention

have we considered that he is not only a coward he is also evil.
Me: "Even if it was unpopular, are you saying the Democratic Party should not speak out against the president sending migrants who have committed no crimes to be tortured in a foreign gulag?"
@mattyglesias: "Yeah."
Me: "Just stay silent?"
Yglesias: "I think that sometimes, if you want to help people... you gotta win first."
Me: "They might be dead in three years time, by the time you win."
Despite all the arguments on this hellsite over the exact number of his Piker tweets, this was the part of my interview with Matthew Yglesias that really stood out to me. I was actually stunned by this response. Shouldn't politics also stand for something more than triangulation, polling and 4-D chess strategizing?

jake tapper trying to figure out in real time how to make israelis the good guys in a story where palestinian men protected a jewish woman from being assaulted by israeli settler terrorists
“It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect … me and my rescuers from being attacked again,” Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jake Tapper.
Levine was kicked, beaten with clubs and robbed by Israeli settlers while covering Friday’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, leaving her with multiple broken bones. Speaking after leaving the hospital, she said Israeli soldiers charged Palestinian farmers as settlers advanced alongside them. She said that unlike her, Palestinian victims endure these attacks daily, with absolutely nowhere safe to go.

I’d be a little more sympathetic to these cloying rejections of “violence” from liberals if they dropped comparable 300 word statements decrying it every time an Israeli murders two Palestinians.
But they don’t, of course. That would mean 10 statements a day. And there’s the rub
I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured.
I’ve spoken out loudly this week against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which imposes violence on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. But violence is not the path to ending it — or to achieving safety, freedom, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
And neither is collective punishment or ethnic cleansing of an entire neighborhood, or punishing millions of people for the criminal act of two, which Netanyahu has promised to enact in response.
I’ve seen a lot this week and I’ll have more to say about in the coming days (I’m on my way home shortly). There is a path to ending this excruciating cycle of violence. It starts by insisting that every life is sacred, that everyone is created in God’s image.
For now: Shabbat Shalom, to everyone who believes in the hard work of making peace & justice a reality, for everyone.

Stephen Miller’s financial disclosure says he’s recused himself from all “official action” involving Elon Musk’s xAI (meaning Twitter, SpaceX, etc.)
Less officially, here he is sharing the bullshit from Elon Musk’s super PAC on Twitter

The outcome of Brazil’s election has consequences far beyond Brazil.
If Lula wins, we are one step closer to preserving Earth’s largest rainforest.
If Flávio Bolsonaro wins, we risk a return to the policies that drove deforestation up under his father.

So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history.
Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq
Mike Tapp: 'Zionism isn't ethnic cleansing!'
Shehab Khan: 'So why can a Jewish guy in London get Israeli citizenship but a displaced Palestinian can't?'
Mike Tapp: '...I didn't know that. That doesn't sound equal to me.'
The absolute intellectual collapse. He spent whole time defending the ideology, only to admit he doesn't know how it actually works on the ground
Yglesias Abundance politics would’ve advised Dems to ignore ICE abuse and back data center expansion. Would’ve been catastrophic politically.

EXCLUSIVE:
As promised, this will be the first of a series of recordings I have about a foreign plot to attack Ilhan Omar with FORGED documents and the help of Trump associates and the Right-wing media.
The man on this call is Alan Bender, a mediator with longstanding dealings in Saudi royal circles. Alan Bender, is a confirmed confidant of Middle Eastern Royals, particularly in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He represented Prince Alawaleed in his divorce case, and also mediated during Alawaleed's detention by Crown Prince MBS
Alan Bender alleges years ago that wealthy, powerful people planned to doctor documents to smear Ilhan Omar, then amplify them through right-wing media, betting her credibility would be destroyed before the truth caught up.
Listen to what he told me. Much more to come.
