Agree with this especially if you have troubles with working consistently. It’s a safety net in case you’re unable to finish a comm. Though in my case, I’m always transparent to clients that their payments go straight to my bills and monthly expenses. BUT, I always make sure to deliver within my 2-week TAT and never ever ghost a client. I could never risk ruining my work ethics because being an artist is my dream and I’m lucky enough to be doing it full-time even though I wasn’t fortunate enough to go to art school.

I know life happens, but as artists accepting people’s hard earned money, we need to take responsibility and reach out to our clients if and when we need an extension or if we won’t be able to communicate for a while. It shouldn’t be the client’s job to blindly seek updates. We need to keep them posted regarding the progress of their comm. It’s a bare minimum considering we’re taking their money before we start the work — and they trust us to do and finish that work in a reasonable amount of time. It’s hard enough to find clients in such a crowded space, so please don’t make people regret their decision to pay for art. I’m so sorry to people who’ve had terrible experiences getting art.

Since there’s always new drama to be found on this space, I’m just letting y’all know that the only drama I’m mentally and physically capable of dealing with is my cat meowing at me passionately in the morning as if he hadn’t been fed all week, when in truth I wake up at 4AM to refill his bowls to make sure he has something to eat after his 3AM zoomies. 🫣
