Why we must get to Mars.
Trebuchets have EXACTLY THE SAME RANGE on Mars as on Earth, except for minor air friction effects, because the gravity affecting the shot also affects the counterweight.
BUT ... catapults and ballistas have an increased range, because their mechanisms aren't based on gravity.
This means when we siege Martian castles, catapults and ballistas are more powerful by comparison to trebuchets. Obviously we need to investigate this in person.
