A'ja Wilson tells reporters that she did not participate in the FIBA World Cup because she did not feel 100% physically.
Wilson said it had less to do with prioritizing the #Aces playoff run and more to do with her own health, a decision HC Becky Hammon supported fully.

Great take! Also it’s a respect thing! The kids works hard, families pour in $, in hopes of some kind of public recognition.
Also….add to some degree helps navigate who’s who early for coaches etc. Staffers for rankings services should be doing this to acknowledge talent NOT earn more money for placing certain kids under certain circuits higher or lower!
➡️A BIG difference between EVALUATING the game and MONETIZING the game.
If you’re monetizing it, be public about it. Transparency matters.
If you’re truly evaluating talent, then take your hands out of other pots that create even the slightest optics of influencing those evaluations.
You can’t ask families to trust the rankings while financially benefiting from the same ecosystem you’re ranking. Perception matters. Integrity matters.

“Rankings don’t matter”……..
Rankings don’t matter as far as getting a scholarship.
Rankings do matter though:
1. Try negotiating NIL/Rev share and quickly find out it matters.
2. It matters to college coaches as far as contract incentives and marketing which is why they post them.
3. It matters to parents which is why they chase them and why they post them.
4. It matters to trainers, club coaches and club directors which is why they post them.
