It's called "partner stalking," and it can go hand-in-hand with IPSV: intimate partner sexual violence. Waaaaaaay back in 1998, in the first-ever national study of stalking, 31% of women who were stalked by a current or former husband or live-in partner were also sexually assaulted by that same partner. Want more context? People who stalked their partners were 6x more likely to sexually assault their partners. This is important to know because partner stalking is often part of a wider pattern of abuse. If you or someone you love tells you their partner has been stalking them, it's a signal to ask about their safety and make sure they know support is available. Not sure if it's stalking? If you or your child experienced sexual assault or abuse connected to school, you may be wondering what the school is required to do about it. Title IX is the federal law that answers that question. Congress passed Title IX in 1972 to prevent sex-based discrimination in schools. It applies to any K-12 school, college, or university that receives federal funding, including federal student financial aid. Sexual harassment and sexual violence can get in the way of a student’s education, so the law and its regulations require schools to respond. Learn more about your rights under Title IX: RAINN.org/title-ix #RAINN #NoMoreExcuses #SupportSurvivors #StopSexualViolence #TitleIX

You can step in safely. You don’t have to confront someone, start a fight, or put yourself in danger to make a difference. If something doesn’t look right, remember C.A.R.E.: Create a distraction. Ask directly. Rally others. Extend support. Sometimes helping looks like interrupting the moment. Sometimes it’s asking, “Do you want to leave?” Sometimes it’s getting friends, staff, or someone else who can help. And sometimes it’s staying with someone afterward so they don’t have to navigate what happened alone. We make campuses safer when we pay attention to one another—and choose to act when something isn’t right. You don’t have to do everything. Just know what YOU can do. ➡️ Claim your RAINN Campus Action Kit: RAINN.org/red-zone #RAINN #StopSexualViolence #SupportSurvivors #CampusSafety

If we want adults who respect consent and boundaries, we have to SHOW OUR CHILDREN what consent and boundaries look like. At home... at school... in the community... When adults model consent and respect boundaries, they help protect kids from BEING harmed and from CAUSING harm. But when kids see adults bypass consent and push past boundaries, they learn the very behaviors that contribute to victimization and perpetration. Consent can seem silly to adults who weren't raised to practice it. But it's VERY simple. Here are a few examples: • Ask: "Can I give you a hug?" • Offer: "Would you like to sit in my lap or in your own chair?" • Explain: "I know you'd rather not hold hands, but this is how we cross the street safely." • Empower: "I'll sit by the tub for safety while you wash your own body." Now we'd like to hear from you: >>> What do you wish YOU had been taught about consent and boundaries? >>> How are you teaching the kids in your life to practice consent and respect boundaries? #RAINN #NoMoreExcuses #SupportSurvivors #StopSexualViolence

Colleges: If you want to know how to make your campus safer, ASK SURVIVORS. They know what failed them. They know what support was missing. And they often have some of the clearest ideas about what needs to change. So LISTEN. Not just after a crisis. Not just during a Title IX investigation. Not just when a campus climate survey comes around. 💙 Listen when survivors tell you where policies failed them. 💙 Listen when they tell you why students don’t seek help. 💙 Listen when they describe responses that caused more harm. 💙 And listen when they tell you what real prevention could look like. Prevention and response aren’t separate jobs. A campus that listens to survivors can learn where harm is happening, what barriers keep students from seeking help, and how to build something safer. Student survivors deserve more than support after something happens. They deserve a voice in what happens NEXT. ➡️ Claim your RAINN Campus Action Kit: RAINN.org/red-zone #RAINN #NoMoreExcuses #StopSexualViolence #SupportSurvivors #CampusSafety

Football isn’t the problem. Alcohol isn’t the problem. Partying isn’t the problem. The problem is sexual violence—and the people who choose to perpetrate it. But it’s true that crowded parties, increased drinking, and more social activity can create opportunities that perpetrators exploit. So before kickoff, make a game plan: 🏈 #1: Respect consent—EVERY time. 🏈 #2: Challenge comments and behaviors that excuse or celebrate sexual violence. 🏈 #3: Check in when something doesn’t look right. 🏈 #4: Know how you’ll safely step in or get help if something happens. Winning on the field is great. But creating a campus where everyone can celebrate safely is much, much bigger. ➡️ Ready to get involved? 🗣️Victim blaming has no place in New York law! The Cornell case exposed a loophole in the law that can deny survivors access to justice simply because they were voluntarily intoxicated at the time of their assault. For years, legislation to address this dangerous loophole has stalled. Survivors have waited long enough. Join us in demanding that New York lawmakers act. In our 32 years, we've seen it again and again. When a story like Cornell's makes headlines, memories surface. Survivors who've carried their experience alone for months, years, even decades, finally reach out. Some are calling for the first time. Some are ready to talk. Some just need to hear, "I believe you." Over the past few days, outreach to RAINN's hotline has nearly doubled. And our hotline staff and volunteers are here for every call, every text, and every chat—24/7. To Jane Doe: Thank you. Speaking out takes extraordinary courage. Your choice to seek justice is opening the door for others to find help, healing, and accountability. We're here in the moment. And we're fighting for what comes next. If you’ve been affected by sexual assault or abuse, you are not alone. If you need to talk, cry, vent, rage, ask questions, find resources, or simply be believed… Text “HOPE” to 64673 RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline is free, confidential, and available 24/7. #RAINN #SupportSurvivors #StopSexualViolence #NoMoreExcuses

Here's what too many people don't know: In New York, the law generally requires force, a clear "no," or proof that a victim was unconscious or drugged without their consent BEFORE RAPE CAN BE CHARGED. 🍺 If a victim chose to drink and was then too intoxicated to consent, prosecuting is much harder—sometimes IMPOSSIBLE. That's the “VOLUNTARY INTOXICATION LOOPHOLE.” It was cited in the Cornell case. It contributed to Jane Doe being barred from seeking justice through the criminal system. ‼️ BEING DRUNK IS NOT CONSENT. It never has been. ‼️ This loophole should NEVER have stood between a survivor and justice. For years, RAINN has worked alongside survivors and New York lawmakers to close the voluntary intoxication loophole—and we won't stop until it's gone. TODAY: New York lawmakers are renewing calls to pass A.101/S.10632. 💡 This legislation would address the gap in protections for NY survivors who become incapable of consenting after voluntarily consuming alcohol or other intoxicating substances. 💡 The proposed change would focus on whether someone was capable of consenting—not how they became incapacitated. 💙 Survivors deserve laws and systems that support accountability. That’s why RAINN is working in statehouses and in Congress to update laws EVERYWHERE, so every survivor has a real path to justice. 🔥 Here's how you can stand with us: • Share this post so more people know this loophole exists! • Use the hashtag #NoMoreExcuses and join the movement at RAINN.org/nomoreexcuses. • Donate, if you can, to keep RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline supporting survivors day and night. 💙 If YOU need support, we're here 24/7. In California, custody arrangements can no longer force survivors into ongoing contact with the person who raped them. The new law allows courts to terminate a rapist's parental rights when there is clear and convincing evidence that a child was conceived through sexual assault—without first requiring a criminal conviction. Now, California survivors can better protect themselves and their children. RAINN proudly sponsored this bill, and we're enormously grateful to Sen. Caroline Menjivar and every advocate, survivor, and lawmaker who helped move this protection forward.
