Perhaps even TRANSform the #pcve agenda... in most cases the threats are hyper local and emerging from within local communities... not external! Mayors need a seat at the table when national policymakers are debating how best to address this threat. @Strong_Cities
The voice is cutting across the globe; without a doubt there is consensus that Cities do have a role in the PCVE Agenda. Local practice must inform National Strategies. Congratulations #WesternBalkansRegionalHub #Sarajevo #nationalgov @Strong_Cities @CLGF @jumuiya @SADC_News

The UK's counter-terror scheme, Prevent, has been criticised for placing too much emphasis on right-wing extremism, while failing to tackle Islamist extremism. So is the scheme fit for purpose? @EmsWinterbotham explores this further here: bit.ly/3XkRMD8

Amen! Now the question for policymakers is does the strategy for reducing the threat of violent extremism in Africa prioritize finding ways address to address the "lack of hope & opportunity..."? Or does it actually do the opposite? Which UN body can do research on this? @UNDP
Preventing violent extremism means addressing root causes & strengthening good governance. @UNDP’s new report shows that while people travel different routes, often the #JourneyToExtremism involves lack of hope & opportunity - from jobs to justice. 👉 go.undp.org/4rbo

And articulating a new public-facing strategy for addressing terrorist threats as they exist today. And having in place a senate-confirmed @StateDeptCT Coordinator to promote it among & get buy-in from int'l partners. And downsizing massive multilateral CT ecosystem.

The big question is whether the policymakers care about what the research reveals to be the drivers of violent extremism... that would be worth researching and understanding why they too often ignore the evidence. #PreventionProject @Rusi_Terrorism
🧵An end-of-year thread! @XCEPT_Research published a range of research in 2022. Here’s a selection of #XCEPT research on the drivers of violent & peaceful behaviour. Read the full list of research highlights from 2022 here: bit.ly/3v7b3MW @FCDOResearch @FCDOREDGCSD

The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS has invested heavily in strategic communications. However, the evidence that any of these efforts have their desired impact is weak, says @KingsCollegeLon's #XCEPT team. bit.ly/3vaPdYN @NafeesHamid @ICSR_Centre @warstudies
