ALT St John Rigby College remains a beacon of educational excellence in the areas of Wigan, Leigh, and West Lancashire. This sustained excellence is something for which staff, students, and the community are justifiably proud. Highlights from the report include recognition of the highly motivated students at St John Rigby College, an unwavering commitment to provide high quality education, and a culture built on kindness, mutual respect, and high expectations. Visit the college website to discover more and read the full report!

ALT The exhibition, by photographer, Pete Regan, considers the relationship that a northern, working class town has between its past (industry, culture etc) and its present and the effects that changing technologies has on that relationship. The students were tasked with taking inspiration from the work in the exhibition when taking their own photographs around Warrington town centre.

ALT The Future writers were inspired this term by a visit from ex-student, published author and English graduate Hannah Davies. She joined the session via TEAMS and had lots of hints and tips for current students who are writing in their spare time. Hannah was inspiring and passionate about her own writing (she’s published on MEDIUM.COM where she’s written on sleep cycles, neurodiversity and many more topics) and recommended NEW WRITING NORTH for our budding authors. Their mission statement, by the way is ’writers craft the stories that shape us’, since we’re following an inspirational theme! Her own favourite reading includes Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway (for the stream of consciousness narrative style) and the classic: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Hannah was very complimentary about her own time as an SJR English student, recalling she’d ‘genuinely, never forget how much I looked forward to your lessons’. The Future Writers, fully inspired, are now working on their own novels.

ALT Students were able to gain detailed knowledge and understanding as to the wider reaching areas covered by the Environment Agency including navigations, flooding, regulation, and conservation. Simon was able to detail examples of recent events, both locally and nationally that they had looked to be involved with and ongoing programmes the Agency are implementing in these areas. Simon also discussed a range of careers advice from employment and training opportunities at the Environment Agency, as well as providing an insight and valuable advice from his career path since attending SJR up to his present role. Students were enthused to ask further questions as to pathways after college and felt inspired to investigate other career paths further thanks to this valuable advice. This was a fascinating insight into such a prominent regulatory institution, and our students gained a wealth of information that they can carry forward into their A level studies and beyond.
