CIC Regina is back! 🇨🇦
The Canadian International Council was pleased to welcome attendees to the reopening of the CIC Regina Branch for an engaging discussion on foreign interference, information integrity, and Canada’s cognitive sovereignty.
Led by Dr. Brian McQuinn, Associate Professor of International Studies at the University of Regina and Co-Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Conflict, the discussion examined how foreign-linked narratives shape Canada’s information environment. Using the Alberta referendum debate as a case study, attendees explored how these narratives intersect with domestic concerns, spread across social and traditional media, and raise important questions about protecting democratic debate.
The event brought together an engaged audience, including Saskatchewan’s Chief Electoral Officer and the President of the University of Regina, reflecting the importance of these issues to the province’s democratic and academic communities.
As CIC Regina reopens its doors, this event marks an important step toward fostering informed dialogue on the international issues shaping Canada’s future.
Thank you to Dr. McQuinn and everyone who attended and helped make this event a success. We look forward to what’s ahead for CIC Regina!

🌎CIC Couchiching 2026: A Civil Place to Disagree.
What does it mean to create a space where disagreement is not only welcome, but valued?
This year, the CIC Couchiching conference brought together students, academics, industry professionals, government officials, and emerging leaders to ask difficult questions about Canada and its place in a changing world. Across panels and conversations throughout the day, ideas were challenged, perspectives shifted and, at times, people disagreed.
That is the beauty of a civil place to disagree.
One of the highlights of this year’s conference was seeing so many young people in the room. Their questions, perspectives, and willingness to engage are an important part of the conversations shaping Canada’s future. At the CIC, we believe young Canadians should have a seat at the table, and spaces like Couchiching create opportunities for youth to learn, connect, and contribute alongside people from across generations and sectors.
Beyond the panels, Couchiching was a place to meet someone new, exchange ideas between sessions, and build connections across academia, government, industry and the next generation of leaders. These conversations are just as important as those that take place on stage.
We extend our sincerest thanks to our speakers and moderators for bringing their expertise and openness to the day. Thank you to our partners, KAS Canada and the Aga Khan Museum, for helping make CIC Couchiching 2026 possible, and to the CIC volunteers whose time and dedication helped bring the conference to life.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who showed up ready to listen, question, challenge and engage.
The conference may be over, but the conversations should not be.
📸Follow along on our social media pages to stay updated on future CIC events and photos from CIC Couchiching 2026.

⭕️Canada doesn’t need to build everything.
In his latest Open Canada op-ed, Jaxson Khan argues that Canada should make strategic bets in areas where we can become critical to future global supply chains, from AI infrastructure and safety to quantum technology.
The goal isn’t total self-sufficiency. It’s building the capabilities, expertise, and trusted partnerships that give Canada meaningful leverage in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
Khan will explore these questions further at CIC Couchiching 2026 as a speaker on Panel 2: Technology, Security and the New Balance of Power, alongside additional leaders examining how Canada can harness emerging technologies to strengthen its security, sovereignty, and global competitiveness.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we honour residential school Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impacts of the residential school system on First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, families and communities.
Orange Shirt Day began in Williams Lake, B.C., in 2013, inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story of the new orange shirt her grandmother had given her being taken on her first day at residential school. The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced in the residential school system, and the lasting effects of this.
Reconciliation requires more than remembrance. It means learning the history of residential schools, engaging with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and listening to Indigenous voices and perspectives.
At the CIC, we believe informed public dialogue has a role to play when it is grounded in that history and guided by Indigenous voices. We invite our community to read the CIC’s Statement on Reconciliation with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples, explore resources from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, and learn about the Indigenous Nations and treaty relationships connected to where they live.
📢PANEL TWO MODERATOR: BENJAMIN LOPEZ-STEVEN

Dorcent holds a Master's in Counselling Psychology and Global Mental Health from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.

She is an alumna of the inaugural Young Women Peacebuilders Programme of UN Women and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), and of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
Her research interests explore how collective trauma, and perceptions of justice shape political trust, social cohesion, and the sustainability of peace in conflict and post-conflict areas. Through her community, and international work, Rodginie is studying how international cooperation can support sustainable peace and the agency of conflict-affected communities.
