We should be preparing for system blackout scenarios. We need pre-emptive protocols in place (pandemic level mobilization) for what to do if banks, phones, government websites go down for an extended period. Make plans with loved ones of what to do if comms go down. Yes, really.

Today at the Senate of Canada, PPF partnered with Senator Katherine Hay and Minister Evan Solomon for a discussion on the federal government’s #AIforAll strategy, alongside PPF Fellow Shingai Manjengwa.

Watching people go back to Opus 4.8 because Fable and Mythos 5 are restricted.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

If AI cans do this, I’m suddenly very concerned about subliminal messaging and it feels like a healthy level of paranoia… The setting for AI interactions is so subjective and so intimate, it’s hard to know what’s “normal”…. Friends and family would notice subtle changes in behaviour at first, then full on mind-control with AI-powered levels of deception to hide it. The movie writes itself🍿🎬
