In April 2023 an artist handed ChatGPT $69 and asked it to invent a memecoin 🐸💛 Rhett Mankind had no coding background whatsoever. What he had was GPT-4, a budget that was a joke by design, and a public Twitter thread documenting every step so anyone could watch it fail. The AI did the work. It generated 10 names and his followers voted TurboToad out of the shortlist. It described the mascot, a futuristic toad later called Quantum Leap, which Midjourney drew. It wrote the concept, the tokenomics and the whitepaper, and by day two it had produced 75% of the smart contract. Then it failed. The token launched on Uniswap on day 3 and a front-running bot swallowed almost the entire liquidity pool within moments, leaving the thing dead on arrival and hundreds of dollars over budget on gas alone. He put it to a vote: quit or keep going. The community said keep going. So he went back to GPT-4, told it the budget was now $0, and it came back with crowdfunding. 50 people sent around 4 ETH between them, roughly $7K. The token was redeployed as solana:2Dyzu65QA9zdX1UeE7Gx71k7fiwyUK6sZdrvJ7auq5wm with a supply of 69 billion, 60 billion distributed to the crowdfunders by contribution and 9 billion kept by Mankind.
