“The Global Leprosy Update for 2025 shows both progress and an unfinished agenda. A record 203 countries and territories reported data. This is a testament to the commitment of Member States,” said Dr Nilesh Buddha, Officer-in-Charge, WHO South-East Asia, in his message to the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Leprosy, held in Cairo, #Egypt 🇪🇬. He emphasized the need to accelerate early detection through contact screening and single-dose rifampicin post-exposure prophylaxis, noting that countries have demonstrated the feasibility and acceptability of this approach. The priority now is to scale up these interventions. Through its Technical Working Groups, the WHO Global Leprosy Programme is advancing child-friendly formulations for treating children with leprosy and strengthening laboratory networks that support antimicrobial resistance surveillance. 🎯 Zero disease. Zero disability. Zero stigma and discrimination. This goal is within reach. Achieving it requires collective action from experts, Governments, partners and people with lived experience. 💙 Behind every number is a person. Keeping people at the centre of the response is essential to ending leprosy. #ZeroLeprosy #EndStigma #PublicHealth

🏥 As external resources decline, essential capacities for surveillance, immunization 💉, and emergency response ⚠️ must be fully integrated into national health systems, backed by clear accountability and predictable domestic financing. Polio transition must strengthen health security; it must never create new vulnerabilities. #WorldPolioDay #EndPolio #HealthForAll

🛡️ Countries must sustain sensitive surveillance, strong laboratory capacity 🔬, and rapid outbreak readiness so that any poliovirus is detected early and stopped quickly. Preparedness plans must be current and tested, cross-border information must move faster than the virus, and communities must receive trusted, timely information from people they know. #WorldPolioDay #EndPolio #GlobalHealthSecurity

#Polio vaccine coverage in the Region has stayed above 90% for many years, through humanitarian emergencies, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2025, 13 WHO-accredited laboratories tested more than 50,000 stool samples, while environmental surveillance at 94 sites in five countries tracks the virus among high-risk populations. 🔬 #WorldPolioDay #EndPolio #VaccinesWork

⚠️ Polio-free does not mean polio-safe. As long as poliovirus continues to circulate anywhere, every country remains at risk. Population movement, humanitarian emergencies, misinformation, and gaps in vaccination can quickly expose vulnerable children and place hard-won progress in jeopardy. #WorldPolioDay #EndPolio #VaccinesWork
